About the company: Our client was formed in 1962 and over the years has developed a reputation within the industry for integrity, commitment and performance meeting with Contractor's and clients requirements. The Group now encompasses Reinforced Concrete Frames, Shell & Core and Development Divisions along with Specialist Contracting, Plant Hire and Sales. They are actively involved in development and construction partnering packages with key clients. Their areas of operation encompasses all the UK, with the Head Office in the south of England, and satellite offices in Manchester and Scotland and currently have an annual turnover in excess of £80m.
Key Objectives
This senior role will have specific and total responsibility for the complete Management/on site construction of flagship projects. He/she will have responsibility for front line delivery of building and engineering and provide leadership and direction to the project specific team. They will be involved with the project through tender negotiations, to act as the project Leader, liaising with the Estimating department on securing the bid. Thereafter with the approval of the Contracts Executive and Operational Director you will prepare the management plan/strategy, and build a site team in preparation for the project start. During the build phase you will be expected to act as the senior point of contact on site, directing and coordinating your team in line with the project strategy and technical/build requirements. He/She will define design scope, whilst identifying the Processes and systems/procedures required under the contract, thereafter monitoring compliance through subordinates and external consultants
He/she will act as the spokesperson for the company managing our global interests including but not limited to, Project/Company H&S compliance, Quality Assurance, Reporting and Project Administration, Design Management, Project management, Project close out, Commercial success.
Supervisory responsibilities
Managerial responsibility for the complete project lifecycle, he/she will be responsible for front line teams on projects in order to meet and exceed the targets/strategy set at tender stage and to the satisfaction of peers and clients
To ensure whomsoever falls under your management on a permanent or temporary basis is competent to fulfil the role prescribed by the function and that no breach of compliance occurs as a result
Ensure compliance with all company related H&S and quality assurance process’s/procedures and legislation.
Main Responsibilities
Head of site/project team.
Ensure adequate management of all internal and external resources to maximise the success of the project delivery requirements.
Develop and maintain regular communication plans with all staff suppliers and contractors to deliver best practice.
Successfully implement and administer the processes and procedures of the company in order that projects are delivered in compliance with all current and emerging industry standards, statute and legislation including the companies QMS.
To work with and liase regularly with the project commercial team, to set and achieve budgets, and commercial success.
Implement the action directives that results from the project/business and manage contractual risk giving guidance/reporting to both peers and subordinates.
Ensure the appropriate management of subcontractors and suppliers accounts, including but not limited to avoidance ‘within reasonable means’ contractual conflict/disputes.
To develop systems and procedures for the ‘front end design briefing’ accompanying the Pre-Construction Director at tender stage to identify/qualify/and quantify the extent of our design requirements and offerings.
To attend bid meeting to discuss/advise on all design related issues included within our bid
To make periodic company related presentations with the Contacts Executive /Director of marketing
Manage a team of internal and external designers as and when required to include coordinators/architects/engineers to the requirements of each specific project, thereafter through the design team ensuring the design is provided adequately but not to excess
Ensure adequate resources are planned and implemented in line with the management plan/strategy, thereafter liaison with all internal departments to ensure that the team are aligned to project programmes and design costs.
Development of immediate reports including performance setting/monitoring/appraisals and any specific training and personal development required.
Ensure that project specific Construction and design programmes are produced and managed through your sub-ordinates.
Ensure that the design team are briefed and attend all relevant project handover meetings and site-specific design/progress meetings.
Develop design iniatives to offer value engineering at both the tender and build stage.
Appraise immediate superiors of potential risks to the company on a regular basis and make best use of any tactical advantage that may exist.
Ensure all project closure systems/administration to include, but not limited to, snagging, O&M manuals, project decant, is produced in a timely manner
To be the Company’s Representative across the multiple interfaces within the Project.
To provide a single point of contact for the client in relation to project activities and represent the Company’s interests with the client.
To implement the training required to meet Health and Safety standards in full.
To establish the team structure, tools and processes that support delivery.
To actively promote and trial innovation in our methodology, processes and products.
To deliver the project within the authorised budget, optimising cost and quality parameters.
To ensure production controls are in place for monitoring, reporting, benchmarking works and improving performance.
To provide regular feedback of production analysis to the Operations director
To implement line HR policies and practices.
To create environment for exceptional team performance.
To ensure the teams, roles, skills and behaviour are aligned with the Company’s objectives and project requirements.
To optimise resource utilisation and eliminate waste wherever possible.
Awareness of Environmental issues within the construction company environment and the Environmental Manual policy and objectives
Key Skills
Must have a professional style with a strong and approachable personality
Must be excellent at team building and communication
Ability to present the project to ext parties in a professional manner and to sell the company in day to day business
Excellent knowledge & understanding of HSE legislation and co values inc IIF
High standards for quality of delivery and performance and customer service
Preference for membership of CIOB, experience in managing several sizable construction projects
