Mechanical Estimator – Leading Mechanical & Electrical Contractor

The Role:

This role involves the production of detailed mechanical estimates specifically within the residential sector of the M&E Industry. They will require an objective and proactive approach to estimating, analysis of quotations received from the market place and ensuring compliance with the tender documents leading to a robust and accurate tender submission. This role would ideally suit an ambitious estimator from a building services background preferably with practical experience or an engineer from building services who has worked on cost estimations in the past.

Responsibilities:

  • To be responsible for the costing variations
  • To have responsibility to recognise a variation in a project copy and apply for variations
  • As the mechanical estimator you will be required to ensure that enquiries and tenders are managed in accordance with company procedures, are fully compliant with the client’s requirements and are submitted on time to meet challenging deadlines
  • Negotiate and prepare quotations for works as required in conjunction with the estimating
  • Provide estimating and tender support functions predominantly in support of the Mechanical operations team
  • Ensure compliance with Health and Safety at Work Act, Construction Act and the CDM Regulations as they apply at all times
  • Ensure effective written and verbal communication of all critical corporate and operational issues within the department
  • Advise the Estimating Manager and other senior managers of any issues or opportunities which arise within the tendering or estimating process
  • Ensure accurate estimates and tenders are produced in a timely and professional manner (Mechanical Division)
  • Producing regular updates and monthly statistics
  • Work with all sub-contractors to ensure we are provided with accurate and timely quotes in line with the agreed contract performance targets
  • Conduct research for and prepare coherent, cost effective and profitable bids / tenders
  • Ensure that produced quotes are market competitive and represent value for money
  • Conduct benchmarking evaluation on tenders received
  • Submit internal tender analysis prior to submission for sign-off
  • Prepare tender submission in line with the client’s specification and evaluation
  • Maintain tracker for all projects from estimate stage throughout the project’s life cycle
  • Meet with clients to ensure we are quoting exactly what the customer wants and to advise the customer on the most cost effective options to meet their requirements – both informally and with formal tender presentations
  • Understand and complete all work related documentation accurately and on time
  • Understand and comply with policies and procedures
  • Mitigate risk to the business
  • Carry out work in a safe and diligent manner
  • Maintain the company’s confidential information policy

Experience:

  • Must have minimum 5 years Mechanical Estimating experience, preferably with experience working on projects worth over £5m or more
  • Mechanical Engineering qualification would be desirable
