Development Manager
You’re an enthusiastic Development Manager and urbanist with a thirst for knowledge in what’s new
for healthy community planning including sustainable, smart, and environmentally/ socially conscious
development. You’re adept at collaborating with and bringing together multi-disciplinary teams,
researching and implementing innovative ideas and working through the development process from
inception through to implementation. You are a team player with an ability for creative problem
solving, strong analytical and communication skills and are keen to advance the approvals of
developments that are exemplary, through a unique approach to, and relationship with: nature,
community, work, technology, transportation…and the future.
You have an Urban Planning, Development or Real Estate background with 3-5 years’ experience in
the field. Your skills include:
❑ Experience in the planning and approval process including:
o Preparing, submitting and processing development approval applications (Committee
of Adjustment applications, Zoning By-law Amendments, Official Plan Amendments,
Plans of Subdivision etc.;
o Liaising with City staff, Councillors, Community Associations and consultants; and
o Submissions and deputations before the Committee of Adjustment and Local and
Regional Boards and Councils.
❑ Can assist in land acquisitions and undertake due diligence including:
o Conduct competitive scans for approvals and project offerings;
o Supporting the establishment and maintenance of project proformas;
o Attend Site and area visits;
o Preparing briefings on the policy directions and regulatory standards.
o An ability to sketch up building envelopes and help underwrite potential acquisitions is
not mandatory but an added benefit.
❑ Have experience planning and/or participating in meaningful community engagements and
consultations.
❑ An understanding and experience in the development approvals process in Ontario, including
the Ontario Planning Act, the Provincial Policy Statement and the Provincial Growth Plan
documents, local and Regional Official Plans and Zoning By-laws.
❑ Have excellent written and communication skills and are conformable in social interactions
and community engagements.
❑ Can undertake thorough research on a variety of topics and prepare succinct briefings.
❑ Can provide support, analysis and strategic advice to colleagues and senior management.
❑ Keeping up on industry standards, regional/municipal initiatives and relevant new and
innovative precedence’s in urban planning and sustainable, healthy and smart development.
❑ Attained a minimum post-secondary education, preferably a university degree in planning,
engineering, urban design.
❑ Must have a valid Ontario Drivers License and preferably access to a vehicle.
