Our client is currently hiring a motivated Project Engineer to join their growing team in the GTA, located out of their Woodbridge Office. The Project Engineer is responsible for both administrative and technical aspects of constructing a project. As a Project Engineer, you are the mainline of communication between the Project Manager, field operations and engineering personnel. You will have responsibility for ensuring the project is planned, scheduled, executed and measured effectively throughout each phase of the project lifecycle. The Project Engineer is expected to have a thorough understand of the project from a technical, administrative and management perspective. Key functions will include management of: technical, quality, scheduling, procurement, payment, and administrative staff and aspects of project execution. In addition, the Project Engineer is responsible for the professional development, and on the job training of Engineers In Training and entry level technical staff. Critical for success is the ability to simultaneously manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment. Must be detail oriented and flexible and possess strong verbal and written communication skills.
Key Responsibilities

  • Maintain and promote a strong safety culture for all employees, vendors, and customers and follow all safety policies, procedures and regulations. Identify and communicate workplace hazards and correct or seek assistance in correcting unsafe actions or conditions.
  • Assist with management and development of project staff. This includes interviewing, hiring, training, and developing employees; planning, assigning, and directing work; providing feedback; addressing complaints and resolving problems.
  • Ensure timely delivery of project technical and non-technical submittals.
  • Track material, production, and project costs and provide documentation as needed.
  • Assist with client and regulatory correspondence and reporting including environmental, QA/QC, safety reports and daily reports.
  • Develop and/or refine the means and methods for key phases of the project with the superintendent.
  • Establish the baseline project schedule and maintain monthly updates.
  • Produce work packages and plans as well as participate in estimating, takeoffs, sub and material procurement etc. to successfully execute the work.
  • Interact with designers and customer representatives on issues related to the project.
  • Identify and track changes and participate in change negotiations according to division and company policies and procedures, ensuring legal compliance.

Your Capabilities and Credentials

  • 8-10 years of experience in a Project Engineer role on major infrastructure. Must demonstrate progression of responsibilities and coaching/mentoring Engineer’s In Training.
  • Proven skillsets in areas such as leadership, planning, organization and delegation
  • Ability to read and interpret relevant technical drawings, blueprints and documents
  • Proficiency with AutoCAD, Bluebeam, P6 and MS Excel, Word, Project
  • Strong communication skills with the ability to build rapport with field personnel and senior leadership.
  • Bachelors Degree or diploma in civil engineering or related discipline or a combination of experience and engineering related training.
  • Registered Professional Engineer in the Province of Ontario
