Construction of offshore wind farm will cost in excess of €2bn

The construction of a new wind farm off the coasts of Wexford and Wicklow is expected to cost in excess of €2bn. The Shelmalere Offshore Wind Farm is currently in the development stage and must attain maritime area consent and planning consent before it can begin the construction of an estimated 70 wind farms which will power up to 800,000 Irish homes. A joint venture between Cork-based company DP Energy and Spanish multinational Iberdrola, the project is estimated to be completed by 2030 and will provide between 70 and 80 jobs locally.
