Job Title: Foreman – Heavy Civil Construction

About the Company Our client is a well-established heavy civil contractor delivering major infrastructure projects across Calgary and Southern Alberta. Their work includes earthworks, underground utilities, road construction, site servicing, and municipal infrastructure. With a strong pipeline of work and a reputation for doing things the right way, they’re looking to add a hands-on Foreman who leads from the front.
Role Overview The
Foreman will be responsible for day-to-day field operations, supervising crews, coordinating equipment and materials, and driving safe, productive work on site. This role is ideal for someone who understands heavy civil construction, keeps projects moving, and earns respect through experience and accountability.
Key Responsibilities Field Operations - Lead and supervise field crews on heavy civil projects including earthworks, underground utilities, roads, and infrastructure.
- Plan daily and weekly work activities to meet schedule and production targets.
- Coordinate labour, equipment, materials, and subcontractors efficiently.
- Ensure work is completed to drawings, specifications, and quality standards.
Safety Leadership - Promote and enforce company safety policies and procedures.
- Conduct daily toolbox talks, hazard assessments, and safety inspections.
- Ensure compliance with COR, WCB, and site-specific safety requirements.
- Lead by example with a strong safety-first mindset.
Crew Leadership - Assign tasks, monitor performance, and support crew development.
- Mentor operators and labourers; help build strong, reliable teams.
- Address on-site issues quickly and professionally to keep work on track.
Communication & Reporting - Maintain daily reports including manpower, equipment, production, and site conditions.
- Communicate regularly with the Superintendent and Project Manager regarding progress and challenges.
- Assist with inspections, coordination with engineers, and client or municipal representatives.
Qualifications & Experience Experience - 5+ years of experience in heavy civil construction.
- Previous experience as a Foreman or Lead Hand on civil projects.
- Strong background in one or more of the following:
- Earthworks and mass excavation
- Underground utilities (water, sewer, storm)
- Road construction and site servicing
Education & Certifications - Construction or trade background preferred (formal education an asset).
- Valid Class 5 Driver’s License (Class 3 considered an asset).
- Safety certifications such as First Aid, Ground Disturbance, and Traffic Control are assets.
Skills & Attributes - Hands-on leader who understands production and people.
- Strong communication and organizational skills.
- Ability to read and interpret drawings and specifications.
- Solution-oriented with the ability to adapt in fast-paced site environments.
