Geo-Structural Engineer

Position Summary:
  • Focus on underground structures, retaining walls, utility supports, and foundations.
  • Initial assignment: LRT and subway projects in Toronto, including design and contractor assistance for Support of Excavation (SOE), shafts, temporary walls, and excavations.
Typical Duties:
  • Develop engineering designs and plans, ensuring quality, thoroughness, and adherence to budgets and schedules for small to medium projects.
  • Maintain organized design calculations and project data.
  • Prepare and monitor project status reports.
  • Conduct material and product research as needed.
  • Prepare and document code research for projects.
  • Participate in planning, cost management, and scheduling.
  • Use engineering and design software to perform tasks.
  • Participate in structure inspections and prepare engineering reports.
  • Review shop drawings and respond to RFIs.
  • Maintain effective communication with project team members and clients.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
Requirements: 
  • 10+ years of experience as a Geo-Structural Engineer in design building, procurement, P3, underground structures, and shoring design.
  • Licensed Professional Engineer (P.Eng) in Ontario.
  • Experience with underground and above-ground subway stations and transit facilities (light and heavy rail), steel/concrete.
  • Proficient in structural software (Plaxis 2D and 3D, Deep Excavation, SAP2000, ETABS, SAFE, S-concrete, Response 2000), AutoCAD, Microsoft Office, Bluebeam, and familiar with Revit, Navisworks, and Robot.
  • Knowledge of Canadian and American design codes (CSA S16, CSA A23, CSA 086, NBC, OBC, ACI, AISC, ASCE, AREMA, TTC Design Manual, and Go DRM).
  • Fluent in English with excellent communication skills.
Physical Requirements:

  • Ability to travel to project sites and other offices for meetings and training.
  • Access project sites for observation, investigation, and evaluation.
  • Use equipment for communication and documentation.
  • Primarily based in the Toronto office with potential short-term travel to North American sites.
