We are seeking an Intermediate Project Manager to manage excavation and earthworks projects from pre-construction through completion. This role is ideal for a PM with strong civil fundamentals who enjoys being involved in planning, production, and cost control, and is ready to take ownership of multiple active projects.
Key Responsibilities
Project Management & Delivery
- Manage multiple excavation and earthworks projects from award to close-out
- Develop and maintain project schedules, budgets, and work plans
- Monitor job costs, production rates, and project forecasts
- Ensure projects are delivered safely, on time, and within budget
- Participate in tender reviews, budgeting, and project handover
- Support estimating with constructability reviews and excavation sequencing
- Plan logistics, access, haul routes, and material movement strategies
- Work closely with Superintendents and Foremen to drive field production
- Coordinate equipment, crews, subcontractors, and material suppliers
- Resolve field issues efficiently while maintaining schedule and cost targets
- Maintain regular communication with clients, inspectors, and consultants
- Manage change orders, extras, and scope adjustments
- Track job cost reports, forecasts, and productivity metrics
- Review and approve invoices, progress claims, and subcontractor payments
- Ensure contract compliance and proper project documentation
- Promote and enforce company HSE policies and Alberta OH&S regulations
- Ensure environmental controls and site compliance are maintained
- Participate in safety meetings, inspections, and incident investigations
- Manage deficiencies, final inspections, and turnover documentation
- Ensure timely completion of close-out requirements
- Participate in post-project reviews and continuous improvement initiatives
- 5+ years of experience in excavation, earthworks, or civil construction
- Previous experience as a Project Manager or Senior Project Coordinator
- Strong understanding of bulk excavation, mass haul, grading, and site development
- Experience managing heavy equipment fleets and production-driven crews
- Ability to manage multiple projects and fast-paced schedules
- Strong financial, scheduling, and problem-solving skills
- Excellent communication and leadership abilities
- Consistent pipeline of excavation and earthworks projects across Alberta
