Our client is looking for a highly skilled and proactive Senior Mechanical Engineer to join their innovative team. In this role, you will lead the design of mechanical HVAC and Plumbing systems for a variety of new construction and renovation projects, coordinate resources, and ensure the successful completion of project design work.
Key Responsibilities: - Lead the detailed design process for projects of varying sizes and delegate tasks to team members.
- Supervise and mentor mechanical designers and intermediate mechanical engineers, reviewing their work before submission to Project Managers, Associates, and Principals.
- Offer technical guidance to clients and project sub-consultants.
- Attend design and coordination meetings as necessary.
- Demonstrate a solid understanding of construction practices and conduct site reviews as needed.
- Prepare schematic design and design development reports.
- Evaluate client design proposals and specifications to identify cost-effective design solutions.
- Select mechanical equipment in collaboration with suppliers and manufacturers.
- Create schematic design, design development, and construction drawings.
- Develop mechanical specifications in book or drawing format.
- Conduct peer reviews of colleagues’ drawings and designs.
- Provide thoroughly reviewed projects to the Project Manager for final review.
- Coordinate mechanical systems with other disciplines.
- Estimate project design and drafting hours, and communicate resource needs to meet deadlines.
- Identify additional service requirements and fees and notify the Project Manager promptly.
- Maintain project schedules and budgets, track progress, and manage manpower resources with support from the Project Manager.
- Assist the contract administration team with reviewing shop drawings, responding to RFIs, managing design changes, and associated costs.
- Drive company goals of high-quality workmanship and adherence to project timelines through continuous improvement of workflows and design standards.
Experience & Qualifications: - Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering with a minimum of 5 years of relevant experience
- Comprehensive knowledge of building systems, including architectural, structural, civil, electrical, and fire systems, and their interactions with mechanical systems.
- Proficiency in interpreting construction drawings and specifications.
- Strong understanding of current codes and standards, including plumbing and building codes.
- Excellent written communication skills and familiarity with software programs (Microsoft Word, Bluebeam, AutoCAD, REVIT, etc.).
- Understanding of project financials, including work backlog, work in progress (WIP), and project costs versus budgets.
- Ability to schedule, mentor, and manage project teams of 1 to 3 people on multiple concurrent projects, depending on size and complexity.
