Summary
The Site Superintendent plays a key role in ensuring the successful delivery of paving, road and highway construction projects valued between $5M and $15M, including MTO work. This position oversees day-to-day site operations, ensuring all activities align with project design, budgets, timelines, and safety standards.
Responsibilities include planning, scheduling, directing, and coordinating resources to achieve efficient, safe, and high-quality project execution. The superintendent also acts as a liaison between clients, subcontractors, and internal teams to resolve issues, manage workflows, and keep projects on track.
Key Responsibilities - Plan workforce, equipment, and material needs to ensure projects are delivered efficiently and profitably.
- Provide direction to subcontractors, coordinators, engineers, foremen, and junior site staff assigned to the project.
- Monitor site safety practices, promoting a zero-incident culture.
- Act as the point of contact for addressing performance issues, subcontractor disputes, and client concerns
- Work with project managers to prepare estimates, budgets, and schedules, including bi-weekly updates.
- Review project profitability, cash flow, and critical path schedules; implement adjustments as needed.
- Participate in project closeout reviews, offering insights and recommendations for improvement.
- Track, review, and approve worker timesheets for payroll and cost management.
Operations - Oversee and approve work performed on-site by crews and subcontractors to ensure compliance with specifications and quality standards.
- Conduct and sign off on health, safety, and environmental inspections.
- Coordinate with project managers to issue progress certificates, process billings, and maintain accurate records.
- Lead weekly site meetings and prepare two-week look-ahead schedules for contractors and subcontractors.
Qualifications - College diploma in Civil Construction or equivalent industry experience eg. foreman, labourer etc
- Minimum 3–5 years of supervisory experience in the civil construction industry, including working on MTO projects across Ontario
- Proven skills in planning, scheduling, and coordinating civil construction work.
- Familiarity with government contracts is an asset.
- Strong knowledge of health, safety, and environmental responsibilities.
