Group appoints new GM for safety, health, environment and quality to help achieve target

Dubai-based Al Naboodah Group Enterprises (ANGE) has set a target of reducing all reportable injuries to zero by 2020 and has announced the appointment of a new general manager for safety, health, environment and quality to oversee the process.

A statement from the conglomerate, which has interests ranging from agriculture and logistics to construction and commercial vehicles, said that Rob Munn has been appointed to the position and will be responsible for overseeing the health, safety and environmental activities of ANGE to ensure the wellbeing of all 16,000 employees across the group. Munn was previously HSE manager at the group’s construction division.

The new appointment underscores ANGE’s commitment to following rigorous health and safety guidelines that have resulted in improved employee welfare, the statement added.

“Adhering to the highest safety standards is not a choice; it’s baked into the way we do business at ANGE. What we’ve seen over the years is that this commitment to safety not only protects the welfare of our employees, it positively contributes to the bottom line by reducing damage to the environment, equipment and machinery,” said Paul O’Flaherty, CEO at ANGE.

“At ANGE we are dedicated to developing and upholding a culture of safety across our company, and we are proud to appoint Mr Munn to this new position to ensure that all our staff are safe.”

The statement added that in 2016, ANGE achieved a record-low number of injuries and zero fatalities, reducing the lost time injury frequency rate (LTIFR) from 0.15 to 0.14. Other key achievements included winning the ‘MEP Health and Safety Initiative of the Year 2016’ award at the Trans Gulf MEP ME industry awards, followed by winning the ‘Best HSE Contractor 2016’ award from the Dubai Airports Engineering Projects.

The operation of the health and safety management system at ANGE is compliant with the provisions of the international occupational health and safety management system specification, the company said. All incidents are recorded online and data is regularly reported.

“We are working hard to fulfil new government requirements to employ Emirati Health & Safety officers. This forms an integral part of our overall Emiratisation strategy,” O’Flaherty added.

During 2015, the group introduced health and safety training to all members in its construction business, while in 2016 Al Naboodah Construction Group was accredited by the Engineering Construction Industry Training Board (ECITB) as a training centre delivering high quality, effective health and safety training to workers and operational staff. This training programme continues across the company for 2017, added the statement from the company, which recently reported its safety, health and environment performance in its 2016 Sustainability report.
