HUSUM Wind 2025: What to Expect from Germany’s Biggest Wind Energy Fair
Date: 28 Aug 2025
Every two years, the small town of Husum on Germany’s North Sea coast becomes the centre of the wind energy world. From 16–19 September 2025, the HUSUM Wind Conference and Exhibition will bring together companies, experts, and politicians to talk about the future of wind power. More than 600 exhibitors are expected, making it one of the most important energy events in Germany.
Germany comes to Husum with good news: in 2024, renewables made up almost two-thirds of the country’s electricity, and wind power played the biggest role. At the same time, the industry faces problems like slow permits, a shortage of skilled workers, and grid congestion. Husum is where these challenges and solutions will be discussed.

Where Germany Stands in 2025
- Onshore wind: In 2024, Germany added 3.25 gigawatts of new capacity, bringing the total to almost 30 GW across nearly 29,000 turbines. Many older turbines are reaching the end of their support period, which makes repowering, replacing old turbines with modern, more powerful ones, an urgent issue.
- Offshore wind: The country wants 30 GW by 2030 and 70 GW by 2045. These are huge numbers, but supply chains and staffing must keep up.
- System challenges: Curtailments and negative electricity prices show that storage and better grid management are becoming essential.
Big Topics at HUSUM Wind 2025

1. Repowering and Recycling
Germany’s early wind farms are getting old. Husum will feature:
- Bigger and taller turbines that can produce more power.
- New ideas for recycling rotor blades and other parts.
- Updates on rules to make the approval process for repowering faster.
2. Storage and Batteries
Batteries are key for using wind power efficiently. By 2025, Germany had built up 14.8 GW of battery capacity, the largest in Europe. At Husum, visitors will see:
- Combined wind + storage projects.
- Technologies to stabilize the grid.
- Ways to use stored energy instead of wasting it during curtailment.
3. Green Hydrogen
Northern Germany wants to become a hydrogen hub. Husum will highlight:
- Electrolyzers that turn wind power into hydrogen.
- Pilot projects connecting offshore wind directly to hydrogen production.
- Infrastructure plans for pipelines and ports.
4. Digital Tools and Cybersecurity
Running wind farms is becoming more digital. Key topics this year:
- The new EU Data Act (starting September 2025), which changes how companies access and share wind farm data.
- New cybersecurity rules under the NIS2 directive that affect many operators.
- Smart software for predictive maintenance and digital twins.
5. Jobs and Training
The industry needs people. In Germany, wind-related job postings grew almost 70% since 2019, and worldwide the sector needs more than 500,000 new technicians by 2028. At Husum, you’ll see:
- Job fairs and recruitment stands.
- Training providers showing off safety and upskilling courses.
- Ideas on how to attract workers from related industries like oil & gas.
Why Husum Matters

HUSUM Wind is more than just a trade show. It’s a checkpoint for Germany’s 80% renewable power by 2030 target.
- For Germany: It shows whether projects, storage, and workers are ready to meet the goal.
- For Europe: Germany’s progress influences the whole EU, which wants 42.5% renewable energy by 2030.
- For investors: It’s a chance to see new business models for storage, hydrogen, and digital services.
- For communities: Husum also highlights local benefits like citizen energy projects and regional jobs.
