About the role: Our client is currently recruiting a Design Coordinator to join their established design coordination department in Birmingham. The successful Design Coordinator will be responsible for liaising with a number of internal and external stakeholders to deliver the tender and construction drawings in line with the procurement and construction programmes

 

About the Responsibilities:

  • Report on any risks, slippages in the issuing of information against programme, lack of coordination on the drawing and specification received from the design team and D&B subcontractors.
  • Liaise with M&E Coordinator to ensure coordination of M&E information and distribution of information on site.
  • Actively maintain the drawing and specification received on site from the design team, consultants, and subcontractors.
  • Issue buying and procurement departments with information packages for quantifying, tendering, and purchasing equipment and materials for site.
  • Liaise with the sales department and/or development manager to ensure the clients sales spec is delivered on site. Notify line manager of any changes in the design pack that does not reflect the agreed sales specification.
  • Maintain the building control and new home warranty tracker and monitor the design team to ensure the comments/conditions are dealt with then released. Coordinate site inspections with the site team and monitor reports / actions.
  • Ensure designer risk assessments and residual risk evaluations have been done by the design team and are filled, acting as the principal designer.
  • Maintain knowledge of the changes/updates to current legislation and regulation which affects the design team and site processes.

About the requirements:

  • Successful track record of leading complex design projects, proven ability to define and implement the right strategy depending on the circumstances and requirements.
  • An understanding of modern and traditional construction techniques including piling, RC and Timber Frame structures, traditional brick and block loadbearing structures, cladding systems, mechanical and electrical services, fit-out trades.
  • An understanding of preconstruction activities including town and country planning, design management, site investigations, party wall awards, procurement, and tendering procedures.
  • Mental and intellectual toughness to confront and solve problems, often through others as well as by themselves.
  • Working knowledge of AutoCAD, Revit, Design/Graphic Packages, Microsoft Project, and Microsoft Office applications.
  • Educated to degree level or equivalent (Architect/Engineer background) would be beneficial but not essential.
