Responsibilities
You will play a pivotal role in he continued success as an industry leader. As such you will:
– Perform complete estimates for multi-discipline projects from receipt of bid package through final bid review, including site visits, scope determination, material take-offs, risk analysis, labour productivity analysis, and constructability analysis
– Participate in analysis of specifications for large lump sum and construction management projects to determine overall project requirements (codes, bonding, insurance, etc.), scope limits/boundaries, and the review of contract documents
– Develop and issue RFQ/RFP packages to subtrades and vendors to obtain competitive pricing, and select the best trade contractor pricing upon comprehensive review, analysis, and evaluation
– Assemble conceptual/budget estimates based on historical project information and benchmarking
– Follow all established estimating procedures and methods for staff to use in the preparation of estimates
– Full accountability for work scope in small-to-large estimates or a component of larger estimates
– Prepare preliminary construction schedules (milestone dates, integration points) and workforce loading documents
– Develop and maintain relationships with all clients and stakeholders, especially trade contractors for price advantages
– Maintain and update trade contractor database information
– Identify risks/opportunities associated with contract/project documents and execution strategies, and propose mitigations and cost savings
– Analyze, understand, and incorporate project-specific requirements, site, schedule, and market conditions/constraints into estimates
Professionally hand-over estimates to the construction execution team and support on projects as necessary, including developing change order pricing
Qualifications / Requirements / Knowledge
– Minimum 5 years of experience in a similar role is considered an asset
– Postsecondary diploma or degree in a related discipline or Technical School certification (Including Trade Certification) in an appropriate discipline – a combination of education, training, and experience
– Gold Seal Certified, LEED Accredited, LEAN experience, MRICS, and CIQS are all considered assets
– Proficient in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Teams), MS Project, and Adobe/Bluebeam
– Familiarity with Primavera P6, On-Screen Takeoff, HCSS are considered assets
– Industrial site experience working with the pipefitting, ironworking, and millwright trades
– Understanding of Structural Steel, Mechanical Equipment, and Piping erection best practices
– Understanding of union agreements (Building Trades)
– Advanced construction/engineering document reading skills (Isometrics, P&ID’s, Flow Diagrams, General Arrangements) and a firm understanding of contract documents
– Robust and confident negotiation skills
– Occasional travel to perform site walkthroughs, site condition reviews, and in-progress project visits
– Drivers abstract required for use of company vehicles
