Our client, a market leading Mechanical Contractor within Vancouver is looking to hire an experienced and motivated Mechanical Estimator to well established and reputable organisation.
Working with freedom and imitative, as Mechanical Estimator your role will encompass both Mechanical Estimation and Project Management responsibilities so this position is perfect opportunities for someone to take a significant step in their own career. Reporting to the Project Director, as Mechanical Estimator you will be tasked with having much responsibility across overseeing the tendering phase of all individual projects and assisting with the overall 360 management of Mechanical Contracting projects from pre-construction phase to completion. Additional responsibilities include but not limited to the following:

  • Prepare detailed and accurate cost estimates and proposals for current and upcoming projects
  • Attend on-site pre-bid/proposal conferences and site visits
  • Coordinate tender process with all necessary stakeholders including clients, subcontractors, venders, suppliers etc…
  • Prepare and issue quotation packages to subcontractors and suppliers, solicits quotes for materials, tracks and follows up on quotation requests, and evaluates quote submissions
  • Oversee the procurement and delivery of projects materials and equipment. Negotiating prices on every occasion to achieve cost efficiency
  • Ensure project milestones are met to ensure timelines are met and within budget
  • Provide regular project status updates to management 
  • Develop and maintain positive relationships with general contractors, consultants, and Subcontractors & Suppliers
  • Develop individual network of new Subcontractors and Suppliers in an ongoing effort to improve company offerings
  • Work with accounting department on new project set-up including job numbers, purchase order amounts, cost estimates, etc.

Education, Skills and Knowledge:

  • 4+ years’ post grad experience mechanical contracting experience, preferably within a Mechanical Estimation or Project Manager role
  • Completion of a University Degree/Technology Diploma in Mechanical, Construction, Civil Engineering, or related qualification
  • Additional qualifications across Quantity Surveying (i.e. CEC, PQS) and Project Management (i.e. PMP) is highly advantageous
  • Knowledge and understanding of relevant Plumbing codes, ASHRAE standards, ASME codes and CSA standards relevant to the Plumbing, HVAC & Mechanical Trades
  • Experience in working with spreadsheets, databases, estimating packages, take-off packages and scheduling packages
  • Strong computer skills and ability to use department software is necessary
  • Previous experience with job task planning, decision making and problem-solving
  • Strong communication skills both written and verbal
  • Strong prioritization skills and the ability to effectively manage multiple and sometime conflicting priorities
  • The ability to work both independently and in a team environment and willingness to assume additional or new responsibilities readily.
