Position
Representing the best interests of the company in the successful delivery of assigned construction projects, the Project Manager provides leadership to efficiently coordinate and manage all job site requirements in order to not only meet but also surpass client’s expectations, ensuring that assigned projects are completed on time, on budget, and meet financial targets.
This is achieved through focus on safety, quality and production, ensuring consistent implementation and systems that optimize the performance of Project Superintendents, Field Engineers and Project Coordinators and adhering to the high corporate standards and cultural and ethical values.
Duties, Responsibilities, Authority and Accountabilities
- Responsible for planning and logistics: work plan, methodologies, and material approvals; management of activities, equipment, staff, materials and resources required by the project to ensure they are available prior to the actual work occurring
- Supervise/manage all Superintendents
- Assist in estimating on as needed basi.
- Develop, monitor and update project schedule
- Authorize requisition of materials, resources and equipment in order to monitor costs and ensure budget requirements are met
- Review, negotiate and manage monthly progress estimates and payment schedules
- Document, negotiate, assess and manage contract changes and supplemental agreements made by the owner and/or subcontractor(s); direct preparation and approval of Daily Force Account Reports (DFAR’s), extra work orders, and change orders
- Ensure that the testing and inspection requirements for the Project Quality Control Plan are performed, documented and submitted to the owner in a timely and efficient manner
- Ensure that the requirements outlined in the Occupational Health and Safety Manual and the Project Health & Safety Plan are performed and documented in a timely manner, and reported as required.
- Ensure that the requirements outlined in the Project Management Plan are performed and documented in a timely manner, and reported as required.
- Partner with the owner and other stakeholders to create strategies and work plans to effectively complete the work.
- Develop and maintain effective working relations with subcontractors and suppliers to ensure both the business and the owner’s requirements are achieved.
- Lead the project team in delivering a professional service and high-quality product.
- Lead project team and subcontractor meetings; lead project team in progress meetings with the owner.
- Track and document daily activities, discussions, meetings and agreements with the owner and subcontractors.
- Responsible to assign the roles and duties as outlined in the project-specific plans:
- o Project Quality Control Plan
- o Project Health and Safety Plan
- o Project Management Plan
- o Project Traffic Management Plan
- o Project Survey Plan
- o Project External Communication Plan
- o Other Project Plans, as required.
- Perform other duties, functions and services, consistent with status or vocational ability as may from time to time be required.

Occupational Health and Safety Leadership
- Manage the execution of projects to consistently meet the goal of “Safety First” ensuring that PM3 Safety Management standards and expectations are met
- Ensure that Team Members are equipped with the information, knowledge, training and supervision to work safely
- Identify, control and communicate all known hazards to Team members under your supervision
- Provide required PPE and ensure Team Members are aware of proper use, inspection and maintenance requirements
- Follow the BC Occupational Health and Safety Regulations
- Ensure a safe work environment for our people, clients, subcontractors, and the public
- Participate in the development of a safe and healthy workplace
- Follow Construction safe work practices and safe job procedures
Reporting Responsibilities and Authorities from Supervisor
- Reports directly to the Construction & Business Development Manager on all matters related to the construction of the project, project budget and schedule, resources and equipment, and environmental protection.
- Reports to the Safety Manager in matters related to corporate health and safety and WorkSafeBC issues.
- Reports to the Quality Manager on matters related to corporate quality control.
- Reports to Head Office and the project owner in matters related to monthly/ weekly schedule and budget updates, progress estimates, project completion worksheets, cash flow projections and other relevant documents.
Supervised Responsibilities and Authorities
- Supervision and management of assigned Project Superintendent(s), Project Engineers or Project Coordinator(s).
- Responsible for supervision and management of hourly workers when supervisory staff is not available.
- Ensure that the project team maintains professional relationships with subcontractors and suppliers.
- Ensure that the project team maintains professional relationships with the owner.
Special Requirements
- Must be willing and able to relocate to future project locations when necessary (including locations out of town and out of province).
- Willing to work additional hours as required.
- Able to travel to meet the demands of the project.
- Able to perform physically demanding work may be required.
- Must contribute actively in a team discussion, sharing experiences, best practices and ideas.
Education, Skills and Knowledge
- Post-Secondary education in a related discipline. Project Management (PMP Certification) or Engineering preferred, or a combination of technical training plus experience/ knowledge of construction (civil preferred) and design.
- Project management experience with a minimum of five (5) years’ related business experience in a leadership position.
- Proficient in MS Office software (Excel, Word and Outlook) and the ability to work in Microsoft Project and construction management/ estimating software.
- Ability to apply innovative and effective management techniques to maximize Team Member performance while guiding and inspiring.
- Thorough understanding of corporate and industry practices, processes, standards, etc. and their impact on project activities.
- Practical and innovative problem-solving capabilities.
- A strong core value, understanding and approach to safety.
- Strong communication skills, both verbal and written.
- A solid understanding of cost control and budget management.
- Efficient and accurate ability to evaluate job costs and schedules.
- Superior interpersonal skills (tact, diplomacy and influence, etc.).

- Must possess a valid driver’s license and have a clean driving record.
