The Senior Estimator will be responsible for estimating a variety of commercial and light industrial projects with a direct contribution to cost management and budgeting for various high-level projects. You will be responsible for gathering all data required for preparing lump sum, unit rate and cost plus detailed estimates along with conceptual estimating, cost analysis and estimate coordination.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Create estimates for commercial and light industrial projects, using whatever designs drawings, sketches and information that is available.
- Review and develop discipline and multi-discipline materials takeoffs (MTO)
- Review project plans and specifications and coordinate with team to confirm complete scope
- Identify risk issues and their order of magnitude
- Prepare instructions to bidders, bid form and other bid solicitation information
- Evaluate and develop construction rates, subcontract cost estimates and proposals
- Perform productivity analysis of cost estimates; perform comparisons of scope, quantities, and cost data between projects
- Review designs and specifications for cost effectiveness; provide recommendations for alternates
- Contact necessary sub-trades and suppliers for estimates; supply necessary required drawings and data
- Proactively handle construction-related questions from sub-trades and suppliers
- Complete preliminary construction schedules
- Present estimate to required parties when required
- Liaise with Business Development function to ensure they are apprised of the high level details regarding the estimate
- Review of completed estimates vs. the estimates for improvement of accuracy of future estimates
- Participate in estimate/project handover meeting with Operations
QUALIFICATIONS:
- Minimum 5 years of experience cost estimating for commercial and light industrial projects
- Formal education in construction (Diploma/Certificate) is considered an asset; an engineering,
- Quantity Surveying or accounting related degree and/or relevant experience would be an asset
- Understanding of a construction work site is considered an asset
- Ability to document and organize complex streams of information (efficiently, accurately with minimal information, strong written, oral, and interpersonal skills)
- Clearly communicate estimating concepts to various individuals in the organization
- Understanding of Building Construction from concept to completion
- Demonstrated organizational and communication skills (written, oral, interpersonal)
- Ability to lead by example and set standard of professionalism
- Proficiency with computers (Microsoft Office, Timberline, MS Project, Insite)
