About the Client
Our client is an established mechanical and electrical contractor with a strong reputation for safe, high-quality project delivery. The business supports commercial, residential, healthcare, education, infrastructure and technically complex building-services schemes, with a clear focus on safe delivery, technical quality and long-term client relationships.
Due to continued growth and a strong project pipeline, they are seeking a Assistant QS to join their team in London. The successful candidate will take ownership of the day-to-day commercial management of projects and packages, ensuring accurate cost control, robust contract administration and timely recovery of value.
This position will work closely with project leadership, commercial, design, planning and supply-chain stakeholders, providing clear ownership of the role's key deliverables and helping the wider team achieve programme, quality, safety and financial objectives.
Key Responsibilities
• Manage the commercial performance of assigned projects or work packages from procurement through final account.
• Prepare and submit valuations, payment applications and commercial reports in line with contractual deadlines.
• Procure subcontractors and suppliers, complete tender analysis and negotiate commercially robust orders.
• Administer subcontract accounts, including payments, variations, notices, claims and final accounts.
• Maintain accurate cost-value reconciliations, forecasts, cash-flow projections and risk registers.
• Identify, value and recover change while protecting the company's contractual entitlement.
• Work closely with project teams to understand progress, productivity, procurement status and emerging risk.
• Develop effective relationships with clients, consultants and supply-chain partners.
• Provide clear commercial information to support project decision-making and monthly reporting.
Candidate Profile
• Proven quantity surveying experience within construction, M&E, engineering or specialist contracting.
• Strong understanding of subcontract procurement, valuation, change control and final accounts.
• Commercially aware, organised and confident working with project teams and external stakeholders.
• Degree qualified in Quantity Surveying or a related discipline, or able to demonstrate equivalent experience.
Requirements & Experience
• Working knowledge of standard construction contracts, ideally including JCT and/or NEC.
• Strong Excel, reporting and commercial-record management capability.
• Ability to travel to and work from the London location as required.
