An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Commercial Director to join a leading Civil Engineering Contractor based in North London.
The Commercial Director will be responsible for providing and developing a high-performing commercial team working closely with the Managing Director and capable of maximising the profitability of the business, analysing and providing accurate and balanced cost reports, and managing risk and benefit. Build strong inter-departmental working relationships and actively contribute to the planning of controlled business growth in both turnover and profit.

Responsibilities
  • Recruit, lead, develop and retain a high-performing team of Commercial staff
  • Lead the commercial strategy in contract negotiation during the pre-construction phase
  • Review contracts prior to contract execution including gaining any legal reviews or advice
  • Lead the commercial strategy in project execution and final account close out
  • Maximise the profitability of the business by identifying value opportunities and accurate cost control
  • Ensure accurate CVR’s are provided monthly where risk and opportunity are understood and actioned in an expedient manner
  • Assist in end of financial year audits in reconciling commercial information
  • Lead in commercial matters such as Insurances/bonds etc
  • Lead the commercial team in project applications, payments, and retention collection
  • Ensure all contractual issues are identified at the earliest opportunity and addressed in an appropriate manner that balances the protection of the business whilst maintaining existing relationships
  • Develop the commercial team to improve the Nett WIP figures by maximising cash collection and developing appropriate cost control mechanisms
  • Engender an approach of collaborative working across all business disciplines
  • Proactively support business development activities
  • Support the business in the preparation, launch, and administration of new initiatives
  • Contribute to future business planning lent towards controlled growth in turnover and profit
  • Undertake other duties commensurate with the level of this position
  • Comply with Company policies & procedures

Experience/Knowledge:
  • Experience in successful leadership by leading and managing large teams
  • Superior time management abilities and capable of meeting deadlines
  • Up to date on industry trends, as well as laws and regulations
  • Ability to build strong relationships with clients and industry contacts
  • Strong commercial awareness
  • Experience in implementation and execution of Strategy
Qualifications:
  • Degree in Quantity Surveying
  • Professional qualification status (MCIOB/MRICS)
