Due to continued growth, they are seeking an experienced Commercial Manager to join a flagship project team based in Blyth.
The Commercial Manager will play a key role in ensuring the commercial success of a major high-value project, taking responsibility for financial performance, cost control, commercial strategy, and reporting. Working closely with operational and senior leadership teams, you will help drive project profitability, manage commercial risk, and support informed decision-making through accurate financial reporting and performance analysis.
The successful candidate will demonstrate strong commercial acumen, excellent stakeholder management skills, and the ability to navigate complex contractual and technical challenges. Experience leading commercial functions on major construction, M&E, infrastructure, or data centre projects would be highly advantageous.
Reporting directly to the Regional Commercial Lead, you will take ownership of the commercial delivery of a significant data centre development, providing leadership and strategic direction throughout the project lifecycle.
Key Responsibilities - Lead and develop the commercial team within a fast-paced project environment, promoting high standards of performance, commercial awareness, and accountability.
- Implement and maintain robust cost control procedures to ensure projects are delivered in line with financial objectives.
- Produce and present accurate commercial reports to senior management, including cost reports, cash flow forecasts, and key financial performance metrics.
- Develop and manage procurement strategies to ensure packages are awarded in line with programme requirements, project scope, and budget expectations.
- Facilitate a smooth transition from pre-construction to project delivery by ensuring clear communication of tender allowances, procurement strategies, budgets, and commercial objectives.
- Build and maintain strong relationships with clients, subcontractors, suppliers, and other key stakeholders.
- Ensure all commercial and contractual documentation is accurately prepared, executed, and maintained.
- Monitor project risks and opportunities, working collaboratively with project teams to maximise commercial outcomes.
- Identify and proactively manage commercial challenges throughout the project lifecycle.
- Oversee due diligence processes for new subcontractors and suppliers, ensuring capability, capacity, and suitability assessments are completed prior to appointment.
- Manage subcontract and purchase order administration to ensure commercial interests are protected and contractual obligations are clearly defined.
- Oversee client valuations, certifications, and cash collection processes in accordance with contract requirements.
- Ensure timely and accurate payment certification and invoicing across the supply chain, maintaining compliance with contractual obligations and supporting positive cash flow management
Requirements - Quantity Surveying or similar degree, typically with 10+ years relevant experience.
- Strong written and oral communication skills
- Excellent numeracy and problem solving abilities
- Main Contractor experience
- Strong knowledge of MEP is advantageous
- Experience of a variety of procurement routes varying from lump sum, remeasure, 2 stage / open book tendering, design-build
- Data centre experience is advantageous.
