Development Accountant

Experience Required: Minimum 3 years in accounting, preferably within real estate development, construction, or related industries.

About the Company Our client is a leading real estate development firm specializing in residential, commercial, and mixed-use projects. With a strong track record of delivering high-quality developments, they are seeking a Development Accountant to support their growing portfolio.

Key Responsibilities
  • Prepare and maintain project cost reports, budgets, and forecasts for multiple development projects.
  • Process invoices, purchase orders, and payment applications while ensuring compliance with contracts and budget allocations.
  • Perform monthly reconciliations of project-related accounts, including bank, loan, and general ledger accounts.
  • Assist in preparing financial statements and variance reports for development projects.
  • Track construction loan draws and liaise with lenders to ensure compliance with loan agreements.
  • Work closely with project managers, finance teams, and external stakeholders to monitor financial progress.
  • Support year-end audits and ensure proper documentation of all transactions.
  • Assist with HST/GST filings and other regulatory reporting related to development projects.
Qualifications & Experience
  • CPA designation or working towards CPA preferred.
  • Minimum 3 years of accounting experience, with at least 1–2 years in real estate development, construction, or property accounting.
  • Strong understanding of job costing, budgeting, and financial reporting.
  • Proficiency in accounting software (Yardi, Timberline, or similar) and Microsoft Excel.
  • Excellent analytical skills, attention to detail, and ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously.
  • Strong communication skills and ability to work in a collaborative team environment.
