Geotechnical Engineer – Vancouver Island

Our client, a well-established multidisciplinary consulting engineering firm with multiple offices across British Columbia, is seeking a Professional Geotechnical Engineer (P.Eng.) to join their growing team on Vancouver Island. This opportunity is ideal for a registered (or eligible) P.Eng. with a strong geotechnical background and at least 5 years of post-licensure experience.
 
This firm supports a wide range of public- and private-sector projects including land development, infrastructure, forestry, utilities, and resource-based industries. The successful candidate will be based in the Courtenay office and join a collaborative team that values technical excellence, practical solutions, and a positive, supportive work environment.
 
Key Responsibilities:
  • Conducting geotechnical investigations including fieldwork, analysis, modelling, and reporting.
  • Preparing geotechnical designs and documentation for a range of projects (residential, commercial, industrial, municipal, etc.).
  • Mentoring and guiding junior engineers and technical staff.
  • Participating in site visits, including field reviews and inspections during the design and construction phases.
  • Collaborating closely with multidisciplinary teams and providing geotechnical expertise across various sectors.
  • Contributing to proposal writing and client engagement efforts.
Ideal Candidate Will Have:
  • P.Eng. registration (or eligibility) with Engineers and Geoscientists BC (EGBC) in civil or geological engineering.
  • A minimum of 5 years of relevant geotechnical experience.
  • Proficiency in slope stability analysis, geotechnical investigations (drilling/test pitting), and foundation design.
  • Familiarity with geotechnical modelling software (e.g., slope stability or pile analysis tools).
  • Strong technical writing and verbal communication skills.
  • A positive, client-focused approach with the ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Willingness to travel for short field assignments (typically 2–3 days; occasionally up to 1 week).
