The Opportunity
Our client is currently seeking a
Geotechnical Engineer to support infrastructure and heavy civil construction projects in the GTA. This role focuses on interpreting geotechnical data, mitigating subsurface risk, and providing practical engineering support during construction activities such as excavation, earthworks, and ground support.
Working closely with project managers, field teams, and external consultants, the successful candidate will play an important role in translating geotechnical information into practical solutions that support safe and efficient construction operations.
Key Responsibilities - Review and interpret geotechnical investigation reports, borehole logs, and laboratory testing results to assess subsurface conditions and potential risks.
- Provide technical guidance during excavation, shoring, dewatering, and earthworks operations.
- Coordinate with geotechnical consultants, drilling contractors, and testing laboratories to ensure alignment between design recommendations and field conditions.
- Monitor and interpret geotechnical instrumentation data (e.g., settlement plates, inclinometers, piezometers) and communicate findings to project teams.
- Prepare technical memoranda, monitoring reports, and responses to RFIs related to geotechnical matters.
- Translate technical geotechnical information into clear and practical guidance for construction and project management teams.
Qualifications - Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering with a focus on Geotechnical Engineering.
- At least 4+ years of relevant experience in geotechnical engineering
- Registered as a P.Eng. with Professional Engineers Ontario (or close to achieving this)
- Experience working on active construction sites, ideally within civil infrastructure or heavy civil projects.
- Strong problem-solving ability and sound engineering judgement when working with uncertain ground conditions.
- Effective communication skills with the ability to explain technical concepts to both technical and non-technical stakeholders.
