Our client currently seeking a detail-oriented and experienced Payroll Specialist to join our team.
Position Overview:
As a Payroll Specialist, you will play a key role in ensuring accurate and timely processing of payroll for all employees. You will collaborate with various departments to ensure compliance with federal and provincial regulations while maintaining a high standard of confidentiality and professionalism.
Key Responsibilities:
  • Process bi-weekly or monthly payroll for all employees, ensuring accuracy and compliance with payroll laws and regulations.
  • Maintain payroll records, including employee data, deductions, and benefits.
  • Calculate and remit payroll deductions, including income taxes, CPP, and EI.
  • Prepare and issue Records of Employment (ROEs) as required.
  • Ensure compliance with federal and provincial payroll regulations, including Employment Standards and CRA requirements.
  • Oversee the employee database by managing updates for new hires, terminations, and employee information changes (e.g., addresses, bank accounts), as well as adjustments to rates, taxable benefits, and deductions.
  • Handle employee inquiries regarding payroll, benefits, and deductions.
  • Collaborate with HR to ensure accurate processing of new hires, terminations, and employee status changes.
  • Generate payroll-related reports and support audits as needed.
  • Stay updated on changes to payroll legislation and best practices.
Qualifications:
  • Diploma or degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field.
  • Certified Payroll Professional (CPP) designation or working toward it is an asset.
  • 2+ years of experience in payroll processing, preferably in Canada.
  • Strong knowledge of federal and provincial payroll regulations (BC experience preferred).
  • Proficiency with payroll software (e.g., Sage, Quickbooks).
  • Advanced skills in Microsoft Excel and other MS Office applications.
  • Excellent attention to detail, organizational skills, and ability to meet deadlines.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
  • High level of discretion and confidentiality when handling sensitive information.
  • Experience working in the construction sector is highly preferred.
