Site Engineer

Role Overview The Site Engineer will play a key role in the technical delivery of highways projects, with a primary focus on setting out, surveying, and ensuring works are constructed in accordance with design specifications.
This role will involve working closely with site management teams to support the safe, accurate, and efficient delivery of highways and infrastructure schemes across the North East.

Key Responsibilities Setting Out & Surveying
  • Carry out accurate setting out for highways and civil engineering works
  • Use Total Station, GPS, and surveying equipment to establish site control
  • Interpret engineering drawings, specifications, and site layouts
  • Produce and maintain as-built records and surveys
Site Engineering Support
  • Ensure works are constructed in accordance with design and project specifications
  • Provide technical guidance to site teams and subcontractors
  • Resolve technical queries and raise RFIs where necessary
  • Monitor progress and support programme delivery
Quality Assurance
  • Implement Inspection & Test Plans (ITPs)
  • Carry out quality checks and maintain records of completed works
  • Ensure compliance with project specifications and industry standards
Health, Safety & Environmental
  • Promote a strong safety culture on site
  • Ensure works comply with HSE standards and project safety procedures
  • Support risk assessments and method statement implementation
Documentation & Reporting
  • Maintain site diaries and engineering records
  • Prepare survey data and technical reports
  • Support progress reporting and project documentation
Requirements Essential
  • Experience working as a Site Engineer within civil engineering or highways projects
  • Strong setting out and surveying experience
  • Proficiency with Total Stations, GPS, and surveying software
  • CSCS Card
  • Full UK driving licence
  • Ability to interpret engineering drawings and specifications
Desirable
  • Degree or HND in Civil Engineering or related discipline
  • Experience working on highways infrastructure projects
  • Knowledge of drainage, earthworks, and road construction
  • SMSTS or SSSTS
  • Temporary Works Supervisor
