JJ Rhatigan bags £280m Luton scheme main build

Date: 29 Aug 2019

London-based building contractor JJ Rhatigan has won the main contract to deliver phase one of the £280m Lu2on residential-led mixed-use scheme.

Singapore-based developer Strawberry Star Group is planning to build over 850 homes at the former Vauxhall vans site.

Rhattigan has now signed the deal for the first phase of 400 flats, including retail space, a soft gym, a 300-room 4-star hotel, 10,000 sqm of gardens and a landscaped piazza open to the public.

Phase 1 will be completed by April 2021 after site preparation works got underway this summer.

The project forms part of the property firm’s plan to deliver 4,000 London-style new homes across London zones 3 – 9 and the commuter belt by 2025 through its UK operation, Strawberry Star Homes.

Santhosh Gowda, chairman and founder of Strawberry Star Group, said “Lu2on is a transformational project, which will significantly contribute to the local economy in one of the top-performing towns for house price growth and entrepreneurial investment.

“We are offering London lifestyle homes and amenities in Luton and we believe that JJ Rhatigan is the right partner to realise our volume housing vision.”

Tom Neylon, JJ Rhatigan’s Regional Director, said: “We are conscious of the high-profile nature of this landmark site and what the regeneration can offer for the Luton community. It will set the standard for the subsequent phases of the project.”

JJ Rhatigan have successfully delivered several residential-led mixed-use developments including Colliers Wood Tower ‘Britannia Point’, Callis Yard, Woolwich and Carolyn House, Croydon in London.
