Head of Sustainability – Construction Company – Central London
About the company:  Our client is a successful Main Contractor operating throughout England, predominantly in London and the southern counties. They are a dynamic, multi-talented organisation, working across the light industrial & commercial construction market sectors within the built environment.
About the Role:  The purpose of the role is to bring an environmental and sustainable focus into how my client work as a business. They have a seven-point plan of how they intend to operate in a more environmentally conscious way and require someone to take the lead in that role for their organisation.
About the Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Lead the development, implementation, reviews and communication of sustainability policies, procedures, strategies and action plans that promote sustainable development in all aspects of company operations.
  • Promote the embedding of sustainability considerations into the day-to-day business of the company proactively identifying and exploiting opportunities to do so.
  • Keep abreast of current thinking and developments in sustainability and education to ensure the relevancy of the approach taken.
  • Ensure compliance and keeping up to date with relevant changes in environmental legislation and initiatives. Advise the company on the implications of existing and new environmental legalisation.
  • Audit and review compliancy with environmental legislation making recommendations for process improvements, the adoption of best practice and management systems as necessary.
  • Review internal process and business functions with a view to ensuring environmental compliance and adopting best practice. Make recommendations for improvement as necessary.
  • Advise the company on the adoption of voluntary accreditation schemes, standards, management systems related to sustainability and the impact of their adoption.
  • Develop and report on appropriate metrics by which sustainability performance, including fiscal, and our alignment to the identified sustainable goals can be benchmarked and measured.
  • Prepare and present annual reports and periodic updates intended for an external audience where required.
  • Collate, analyse and interpret a wide range of date to inform priorities, performance etc…
  • Maximise opportunities for fiscal savings through efficient use of resources, reuse and waste minimisation.
  • Identify opportunities for potential funding to develop business cases in support of key sustainable initiatives.
  • Co-ordinate and lead the company’s sustainability wide engagement activities and awareness campaigns through collaboration with internal stakeholders and external groups as appropriate.

About the Requirements:
The individual for this role will need to be passionate about sustainability and ideally have some completed courses or have qualifications to demonstrate this. It would assist if they have worked in the construction industry but this is not strictly necessary.
