About the Role: An exciting opportunity for a highly motivated individual to join their Northern Home Counties commercial department, as a Senior Estimator. The purpose of the role will be to take responsibility for calculating major cost estimates. You will be involved in the planning, development, negotiation and contract execution of a project. Working alongside the Commercial Manager/Director you will be assisting in producing accurate take-off’s and subsequent bills of quantities.
 
 
Key Responsibilities and Accountabilities:
 

  • Business lead/ sourcing new tender opportunities/ clients and working on developing long standing This work is shared between the team but you will be expected to contribute.
  • Administration/Management of booking in tenders and logging into the shared tender list system, including saving contract information and processing of this information (printing and filing) prior measurement and pricing of
  • Making initial contact with clients to confirm accept or decline of tender
  • Establish the best price for the project in a competitive bid situation having regard to the costs and ensuring that the contract can be completed profitably
  • Obtain quotes for all predicted requirements from sub-contractors and suppliers
  • Assisting in producing take-offs and cost database for analysis by others
  • Calculate the cost of materials, transport, labour and plant hire
  • Understanding the commercial aspects of measurement, bills and rate presentation/ ensuring consistency with current/ live schemes, understanding the confidentiality of (and sometimes the transparency)
  • Understand and clarify the client’s requirements/ contact terms and offer value engineering for discussion with the management team (and benefits of)
  • Undergo regular site visits to understand the process/ timings and sciences of estimating including the realisation of the labour/ plant and material aspect of any given construction process
  • Chasing/ following up previously submitted tenders and ensuring that the client has a fully comprehensive analysis including receipt of feedback on competitiveness of the tender/ bid
  • To undertake a full review of the technical and commercial data provided by the client; realise information which may be required to undertake a take-off and price of that issued tender which may be missing from the enquiry
  • Assessing and adhering to all risk assessments and health and safety requirements
  • Keeping up to date with inflation and projected timescale costs
  • Making visits to proposed construction sites.

 
About the Requirements:
 

  • Minimum 3 years’ experience within the industry
  • General Knowledge of contractual terms within the construction industry
  • Skilled negotiator
  • Networking/ Client engagement/ development – proven
  • Computer literate and proficient in Microsoft Excel
  • Well organised with a strong work ethic
  • Effective communicator both written and
  • Excellent attention to detail and accuracy
  • Strong mathematical ability
  • Ability to identify & resolve problems quickly and
  • GCSE in both Maths and English or HNC/HND Construction related is
