Intermediate/Senior Structural Engineer / Project Manager
This position in general comprises project and staff management; conceptual planning, assessment, analysis and detailed design and contract document preparation, support during construction; and business development/client liaison for projects involving bridge structures including condition surveys/assessment, rehabilitation and design of bridge, culvert and other roadway structures, parking structures, tunnels as well as structural design for municipal sewage/water works comprising reinforced concrete tanks/reservoirs, pumping station wet-wells, buildings.
Qualifications:
- Civil or Structural Engineering Degree from an accredited university; having a master’s degree in structural design would be an asset
- Professional Engineer with the Eng designation (Ontario)
- Have demonstrated experience in structural design and bridge engineering with a recognised consulting engineering firm
- 7-10 years of experience in the design and construction of bridges and highway/road structures as well as other municipal structures
- Experience with the Canadian Highway Bridge Code
- Experience in planning, preliminary design and detailed design of new bridges and rehabilitation of existing bridge; steel and concrete structures, bridge assessment, bridge load evaluation and culvert sizing
- Experience working with government agencies (MTO) and knowledge of MTO, Contract Preparation system and being (or eligible to be) MTO RAQS approved is an asset;
- Advanced structural engineering and analysis capabilities, including ability to perform nonlinear analysis.
- Ability to design reinforced concrete, post-tensioned concrete, and steel
- Ability to prepare comprehensive engineering reports and good working knowledge of MS Office, industry standard bridge design and analysis software, and AutoCAD or MicroStation as an engineering tools is
Responsibilities:
- Carry out and manage all aspects of design including bridges, roadway structures and other municipal structures
- Collaborate with multidisciplinary design teams
- provide leadership in the assessment and development of detailed designs for projects involving bridges and structures
- Understand and apply the current Canadian Highway Bridge Design Code CAN/CSA S6, AASHTO LRFD Code and related standards to bridge analysis and design
- Develop designs through all design phases, conceptual to detailed designs
- Analysis, evaluate appropriate design solutions and design of transportation and municipal structures including bridges, culverts, retaining walls and foundations
- Perform design calculations for bridges and structures
- Supervise, oversee and review calculations and designs performed by less experienced engineers and
- Perform Independent Design Check
- Develop and administer preparation of construction plans for bridges and
- Develop structural details and construction plans using AutoCAD and MicroStation
- Coordinate with and direct CAD production activities for design
- Prepare and review technical reports, tender documents including technical special provisions to accompany construction plans
- Develop quantity and expected construction cost estimates in support of plan, specification and estimate scopes of work
- Prepare project schedules, and budgets
- Develop engineering studies, reports and documentation
