Environmental Lead – Rail & Transit
Location: Downtown Toronto / Hybrid
Salary: $130,000 - $155,000
An established international engineering consultancy is seeking an experienced Environmental Lead to support the delivery of major rail and transit infrastructure projects in the GTA. This is an excellent opportunity to take on a leadership role within a growing team, contributing to complex, high-profile projects.
The Role:
You will be responsible for leading environmental activities across the project lifecycle, acting as the key point of contact for all environmental matters. This role combines technical oversight, stakeholder coordination, and team leadership.
Key Responsibilities:
• Lead and coordinate a multidisciplinary environmental team, including specialists in hydrogeology, contaminated lands, ecology, environmental planning, and noise & vibration
• Manage subconsultants, including scope, budgets, schedules, and deliverables
• Ensure compliance with environmental requirements, approvals, and agreements
• Build and maintain relationships with regulatory authorities and key stakeholders
• Lead environmental input into design reviews, including mitigation and compensation strategies
• Act as the primary liaison with the client on all environmental matters
• Oversee implementation of environmental management and quality plans, ensuring ongoing compliance
Qualifications & Experience:
• 8–10+ years of experience in environmental roles within rail, transit, or large-scale civil infrastructure projects
• Degree in Environmental Engineering, Environmental Science, or a related discipline
• Strong knowledge of Ontario environmental legislation and processes, including EA and TPAP
• Proven experience managing or coordinating multidisciplinary teams and external consultants
• Excellent communication, stakeholder management, and organizational skills
• Strong problem-solving ability and capacity to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment
This position offers a hybrid working model, with time split between a downtown Toronto office, an east-end project office, as well as working from home twice a week.
