Mechanical Technologist - Commercial & Multi-Family Projects Location: Abbotsford, BC
Salary: $70,000 - $85,000 + Benefits
Our client, a well-established multi-disciplinary engineering consulting firm, is seeking an Intermediate Mechanical Technologist to join their growing team in Abbotsford. The firm delivers engineering and design services across a variety of development projects, including multi-family residential, commercial, and light industrial buildings.
This is an excellent opportunity for a technologist with experience in HVAC and plumbing system design who enjoys being involved throughout the full project lifecycle—from concept design through construction.
The successful candidate will support mechanical design activities, coordinate with multidisciplinary teams, and contribute to the production of high-quality design documentation.
Key Responsibilities - Assist with the design of building mechanical systems, including HVAC, plumbing, and fire protection, in accordance with applicable codes and standards
- Prepare mechanical drawings, schematics, schedules, and details from conceptual design through construction documentation
- Develop and modify mechanical designs using Revit MEP and AutoCAD
- Coordinate mechanical system layouts with architectural, structural, and electrical disciplines
- Perform heating and cooling load calculations using industry-standard software
- Support energy modelling and compliance documentation for building performance requirements
- Review contractor shop drawings and submittals for compliance with design intent
- Conduct site visits, field reviews, and surveys to support design development and record drawings
- Collaborate with engineers and project teams to ensure projects are delivered on schedule and to quality standards
Qualifications - Diploma in Mechanical Engineering Technology or a related discipline
- 5-7 years of experience working within a mechanical consulting engineering environment
- Experience designing HVAC and plumbing systems for buildings
- Strong proficiency with Revit and AutoCAD
- Understanding of building science fundamentals, including heat transfer, thermodynamics, and airflow
- Working knowledge of NFPA, NECB, ASHRAE, and applicable building/plumbing codes
- Ability to interpret architectural, structural, and electrical drawings
- Experience with energy modelling and load calculation software such as HAP, Trace 700, IES VE, EE4, EnergyPlus, or similar tools
- Familiarity with sustainable building standards (e.g., LEED) is considered an asset
