With a strong technical team and a track record of delivering high-quality work in compliance with ULC and NFPA standards, this firm continues to build its reputation across Alberta’s commercial and industrial sectors.

We are currently supporting their search for a Senior Fire Protection Designer to join their in-house engineering team. This is a fantastic opportunity for a technically skilled and detail-oriented designer to work on a diverse range of projects with a collaborative, engineering-focused company.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Develop layout and general arrangement drawings using AutoCAD and fire protection software (HydraCAD, AutoSPRINK, etc.)
  • Perform hydraulic calculations to determine pipe sizing, sprinkler head selection, and pump sizing
  • Coordinate designs with other disciplines such as HVAC, electrical, and structural teams
  • Generate material take-offs, fabrication sheets, and installation documentation

  • Review internal and external fire protection drawings for accuracy, safety, and constructability
  • Attend project coordination meetings to ensure integration across trades
Ideal Candidate Will Have:
  • Degree or diploma in Mechanical Engineering, Fire Protection, or a related discipline — or equivalent experience
  • 2–5+ years of hands-on fire protection or MEP design experience
  • In-depth knowledge of relevant codes (NFPA, building code, FM Global)
  • Proficiency in AutoCAD; experience with Revit and Navisworks considered an asset
  • Experience using HydraCAD, AutoSPRINK, or similar design software
  • Familiarity with hydraulic analysis tools such as AFT Fathom
  • Strong attention to detail and effective communication skills
  • Ability to work independently while also collaborating in a team environment
  • BIM and project management software experience (e.g., Procore) is a plus
What’s On Offer:
  • Competitive salary range of $80,000 – $100,000, depending on experience
  • Comprehensive benefits and employee assistance program
  • RRSP matching program
  • Ongoing professional development and training opportunities
  • A supportive, team-oriented environment focused on technical excellence
