We are currently supporting their search for a
Senior Fire Protection Designer to join their in-house engineering team. This is a fantastic opportunity for a technically skilled and detail-oriented designer to work on a diverse range of projects with a collaborative, engineering-focused company.
Key Responsibilities: - Design fire sprinkler systems in accordance with NFPA codes, building regulations, and FM Global guidelines
- Develop layout and general arrangement drawings using AutoCAD and fire protection software (HydraCAD, AutoSPRINK, etc.)
- Perform hydraulic calculations to determine pipe sizing, sprinkler head selection, and pump sizing
- Coordinate designs with other disciplines such as HVAC, electrical, and structural teams
- Generate material take-offs, fabrication sheets, and installation documentation
- Conduct fire protection system assessments using tools like AFT Fathom
- Review internal and external fire protection drawings for accuracy, safety, and constructability
- Attend project coordination meetings to ensure integration across trades
Ideal Candidate Will Have: - Degree or diploma in Mechanical Engineering, Fire Protection, or a related discipline — or equivalent experience
- 2–5+ years of hands-on fire protection or MEP design experience
- In-depth knowledge of relevant codes (NFPA, building code, FM Global)
- Proficiency in AutoCAD; experience with Revit and Navisworks considered an asset
- Experience using HydraCAD, AutoSPRINK, or similar design software
- Familiarity with hydraulic analysis tools such as AFT Fathom
- Strong attention to detail and effective communication skills
- Ability to work independently while also collaborating in a team environment
- BIM and project management software experience (e.g., Procore) is a plus
