Senior Geotechnical Engineer
Location: Vancouver or Kelowna, BC
Salary: $140,000 - $180,000 + benefits
We are partnering with a well-established, multidisciplinary engineering consultancy to recruit a
Senior Geotechnical Engineer for their growing BC practice. This is a senior technical and leadership role suited to someone who enjoys owning complex projects, mentoring teams, and building long-term client relationships.
The successful candidate will lead geotechnical projects from concept through construction, providing technical direction across a diverse portfolio that includes municipal, commercial, industrial, and residential developments.
The Role As a Senior Geotechnical Engineer, you will be responsible for both technical excellence and project delivery, acting as a trusted advisor to clients while supporting the growth of the geotechnical group.
Key responsibilities include:
- Leading the design and delivery of complex geotechnical projects including shallow and deep foundations, retaining structures, slope stability, excavations, shoring, and earthworks
- Performing advanced geotechnical analyses, modelling, and interpretation for challenging ground conditions
- Planning and overseeing geotechnical site investigations, including drilling and test pitting programs, field supervision, and detailed soil and rock logging
- Preparing high-quality engineering reports, proposals, technical specifications, and design deliverables
- Providing construction-phase support, field reviews, and troubleshooting to ensure design intent and regulatory compliance
- Acting as a primary point of contact for clients, contractors, and regulators, managing expectations and maintaining strong relationships
- Managing project scope, budgets, schedules, and resources to ensure successful and profitable delivery
- Mentoring and developing junior engineers, EITs, geoscientists, and technologists
- Reviewing and sealing engineering drawings and reports, taking professional responsibility for deliverables
- Contributing to business development through proposal preparation, fee estimates, and identification of new opportunities
- Collaborating closely with civil, structural, environmental, and other disciplines to ensure integrated design solutions
- Supporting quality assurance and quality control processes across geotechnical deliverables
- Staying current with industry best practices, emerging technologies, and advanced numerical modelling tools
Software & Technical Exposure - Advanced use of geotechnical analysis and design software such as GeoStudio (Slope/W, Seep/W, Sigma/W), PLAXIS, WALLAP, or similar
- Oversight and interpretation of laboratory testing programs for soil and rock materials
Qualifications - Bachelor's degree in Civil, Geotechnical, or Geological Engineering (Master's degree preferred)
- Registered Professional Engineer (P.Eng.) in British Columbia, or immediately eligible
- 8+ years of progressive geotechnical consulting experience, including design and project leadership
- Strong technical background in soil and rock mechanics, foundation design, slope stability, excavations, and earthworks
- Solid understanding of Canadian codes, standards, and municipal design guidelines (including BC Building Code and MMCD)
- Proven ability to lead projects from concept through construction
- Strong communication skills with the ability to clearly present complex technical information
- Demonstrated experience mentoring and leading technical teams
- Client-focused mindset with business development and proposal experience
- Valid Class 5 driver's license and willingness to attend project sites as required
