About the role: My client is currently recruiting for a Senior Quantity Surveyor to join our established Commercial department in Birmingham. The client have successfully secured planning permission for a 582-unit residential development, as well as a further 426-unit scheme with planning permission, both of which are in Central Birmingham.


About the Responsibilities:

  • Be actively involved in the detailed review, analysis and monitoring of the procurement and construction budget for the construction team and specialist subcontractors as well as the design delivery programmes of the design teams.
  • Monitor overall construction costs against construction budget, including prelims and trade packages.
  • Report to the Managing Surveyor any risks, budget variance, subcontract accounts and the like.
  • Review actual design and subcontract packages and construction progress against the construction budget and prepare monthly cost reports.
  • Produce monthly reconciliations of construction costs against cost report and report to the Managing Surveyor accordingly.
  • Produce monthly valuations in partnership with the Managing Surveyor regarding progress on site against the contract sum analysis. Meet and agree the valuations with the nominated fund PQS and follow through to certification.


About the requirements:

The successful candidate will demonstrate the following:

  • Experience of leading and implementing a broad range of projects, managing subcontracts, supply chains and ensuring service performance.
  • Must have experience working on large residential projects, either for a main contractor or property developer.
  • Proven ability to define and implement the right strategy depending on the circumstances and requirements.
  • Successful track record of leading complex negotiations.
  • The ideal candidate will have at least 5 years’ experience at Project Quantity Surveyor level. We would consider someone who is currently employed as a Senior Quantity Surveyor looking for a move, or an experienced Project Quantity Surveyor looking to step up.
  • Must be MRICS/MCIOB qualified or working towards MRICS/MCIOB.
  • Must have an understanding of modern construction techniques including:
    • Piling
    • Reinforced Concrete Structures
    • Cladding Systems
    • Mechanical and Electrical services
    • Fit-out trades
  • Must have good general knowledge of tendering and procurement and be able to use Microsoft Office applications efficiently.
