Primary Purpose of Position:
In this role, you will be responsible for overseeing all of the estimating operations within a business unit, and supervises the estimating process by developing divisional work force, coaching / mentoring, providing input into project pursuit approvals, overseeing allocation of estimating resources, reviewing estimates, and managing tender closings / pursuit submissions.
As a Chief Estimator you will:
Working to direct a team of Estimators, the position will be responsible for:
Team Leadership:
- Understands and follows the company’s – staffing, performance management, rewards, and development;
- Accountable for the overall engagement, productivity, turnover and strength of the team;
- Ensures all team members are provided with clear performance objectives that are aligned with company’s and departmental goals
- Develops positive and productive peer relationships
- Works in a collaborative and constructive manner with team and cross functional partner
- Provide leadership for the estimating team on major complex projects pursuit.
Estimating:
- Accountable for discharge of all estimating related responsibilities to team
- Oversee all estimates, including detailed review of others’ work
- Attending pre-let meetings, site meetings in order to prepare precise estimate
- Lead the overall preconstruction process including bidding, proposals, cost estimates, and budget analysis
- Review estimate assignments to ensure accuracy and completeness prior to formal submission
- Propose and approve project risk and cost mitigation as well as the potential for project opportunities and cost savings
- Lead external and internal presentations of proposals and estimates
- Identify project-specific prices related to key items including labour, equipment and materials
- Build effective relationships with clients, consultants, subcontractors, suppliers, and internal stakeholders (operations staff) that reflect and support the companies core values.
- Accurately interpret technical specifications for bid documents
- Review project business plans with external clients and internal stakeholders to ensure profitability
- Actively assist with full quantity take-offs to ensure accuracy of contract specifications and pricing
- Keep pricing requirements top-of-mind to ensure feasibility
- To be successful, you will have the following qualification and experience:
- Minimum of 8 years’ senior estimating experience, with Demolition/Construction projects;
- 5 years relevant management experience
- A proven track record of estimate / bid management as well as team collaboration and management
- Successful experience in leading Level 3+ projects and managing and mentoring of a small team
- Outstanding leadership and organizational skills with the ability to effectively influence others and successfully resolve a variety of client, project and technical issues to bring the project to successful completion
- Ability to analyze and evaluate complex problems and to plan and lead multidisciplinary teams to execute demolition solutions
- Previous experience with ViewPoint and/or B2W, considered an asset
- Candidate MUST be located in Canada
