Civil Engineer in Toronto
 
Initially, under the supervision of the Head of Engineering, the Civil Engineer will participate in major Canadian infrastructures projects of the Electrical discipline (including Power Supply and distribution, lighting, earthing & bonding, lightning protection, etc…) in both design and site works supervision.
 
Responsibilities include:

  • Know, respect and apply company’s philosophy and fundamental values, organizational and operating principles, standards and procedures.
  • Assist Design Manager in all tasks related with the development of construction documents required for the Ontario Line Southern Civil, Stations and Tunnel Project
  • Monitor Design Schedule, track deliverable dates and prepare look-ahead schedule for distribution.
  • Assist discipline leads to identify design issues and prepare RFIs to send to the client as required.
  • Manage Design Subconsultant agreements, deliverables and invoicing process.
  • Track all Project associated Costs related with Design hours progress tracking, estimating.
  • Work with Discipline Leads to ensure that design solutions are fully coordinated with other disciplines and contract requirements by chairing meetings, preparing sketches, tracking deliverables.
  • Work with BIM and CAD personnel to develop drawings, sketches and support documents when required.
  • Track and Monitor Design Interfaces – Internal, External with Client and External with Third Parties.
  • Review all contract requirements and ensure Compliance.
  • Participate in Change Management process and assist Commercial Manager when required.
  • Design Issues Tracking and Issues Resolution.
  • Liaise with Project Document Control Manager and ensure procedures are being adhered to and key documents uploaded to Client are compliant.
  • Review Project and Company procedures for Design Quality Management and track performance.
  • Position requires attendance at internal and external meetings and keep meeting minute records.
  • Candidate should generally be familiar with local design codes, drawing preparation standards etc.
  • Research into available design standards, requirements, literature to support design decision making.

Depending on the role in the project, responsibilities may include and are not limited to:

  • Independently develop and maintain requirements management processes, Interface Management Processes, Configuration Management Processes.
  • General management of the discipline and coordination/interfacing with other disciplines and with Project Management.
  • Independently perform Quality Control and Quality Assurance of the technical activities of the team.
  • Independently develop process to generate status and reports, metrics and documents.
  • Provide relevant inputs to other teammates, disciplines and functions.

Job Requirements:

  • 5 – 20 years’ experience in Civil Engineering/Electrical
  • Experience in LRT (preferred), Metro or Railway design projects (or any other Infrastructure projects).
  • Have a view of, and perform a practical implementation of, a holistic top-down systems engineering approach that considers the System as a whole (not a collection of individual systems, or projects).
  • Have experience in the application of a lifecycle approach (the entire spectrum of activity for a given system, commencing with the identification of need and extending through system design and development, construction/manufacture/installation, operational use and maintenance, system retirement and disposal).
  • Desirable experience in rail/transit operations and maintenance.
  • Degree in engineering (Bachelor or equivalent, as a minimum).
  • Professional Engineer (P.Eng.) registered in Ontario or Quebec is desirable.
  • Ability to develop non-standard solutions.
  • Ability to work in a multi-disciplined team.
  • Willingness to learn, develop and apply new techniques, standards and processes.
  • Willingness to take on additional tasks as needed.
  • Excellent interpersonal, presentation and communication skills.
  • Excellent organizational, time management and problem solving skills.
  • Advanced user of Microsoft Office.
  • Business fluency in English, both written and verbal. French speaking is a plus.
  • Legally able to work in Canada
