Financial Controller

A well-established and growing real estate development company based in Vancouver is seeking an experienced Financial Controller to join their leadership team. This is a key hire for the business, offering an exciting opportunity for a finance professional with a strong background in the development or construction industry.

Our client is a reputable and dynamic developer with a strong portfolio of residential and commercial projects across the Lower Mainland. With an emphasis on quality, innovation, and long-term value, the business is entering a new phase of growth and is looking for a senior finance leader to help support strategic and operational decision-making.

The Role: Reporting directly to the CFO or Managing Director, the Financial Controller will be responsible for overseeing the company’s financial operations, including project and corporate accounting. The successful candidate will play a central role in budgeting, forecasting, financial reporting, and ensuring robust financial controls are in place.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Oversee full-cycle accounting including GL, A/P, A/R, payroll, and month/year-end close
  • Manage project accounting across multiple developments, including budget tracking and cost control
  • Prepare timely financial statements and management reports for internal and external stakeholders
  • Lead cash flow management, forecasting, and funding requirements
  • Coordinate with external auditors, tax advisors, financial institutions, and legal partners
  • Develop and implement financial controls, policies, and procedures
  • Prepare detailed budgets, forecasts, and financial models to support ongoing and upcoming projects
  • Provide financial analysis for project feasibility, acquisitions, and investment decisions
  • Supervise and mentor finance and accounting team members
  • Ensure compliance with all regulatory and tax reporting requirements
Candidate Requirements:
  • CPA designation (or equivalent) is essential
  • Minimum 7 years of progressive finance experience, including at least 3 years in a senior or leadership role
  • Industry experience in real estate development, construction, or property management is required
  • Strong understanding of project-based accounting and development finance
  • Proficient with accounting systems such as Yardi, Sage 300, QuickBooks, or similar
  • Detail-oriented, hands-on, and comfortable in a dynamic, entrepreneurial environment
  • Excellent communication, analytical, and leadership skills
Desirable Attributes:
  • Experience with joint ventures, partnerships, and multi-entity structures
  • Background in land acquisition and development financing
  • Exposure to investor reporting or private equity-backed projects
  • Familiarity with the Vancouver real estate market and regulatory environment
