Geotechnical Engineer, Rock Engineering (Intermediate/Senior)

Our client, a global engineering consulting firm dedicated to sustainable and innovative solutions, is looking for an intermediate to senior engineer specialized in Rock Engineering to join their team in Burnaby.

This is a full service environment, from field exploration and lab testing through to designing and managing construction of complex geotechnical structures. You'll work closely with a local team of 35 geotechnical staff in Burnaby, backed by a wider regional team of over 200.

Your opportunity:
  • Apply your growing expertise while learning from experienced engineers, assessing geological conditions and carrying out rock mass characterization across slope stability, tunneling, underground excavations, foundations, rockfall hazards, and mining
  • Get out of the office with occasional field work, including site inspections, geological mapping, UAV or terrestrial photogrammetry, borehole monitoring, rock core logging, construction monitoring, and instrumentation installation, with the extent shaped by your interest and experience
  • Coordinate with project teams across Canada and abroad, and help mentor junior staff as the team grows
  • Take ownership of tasks within small to mid sized projects, supporting planning, analysis, reporting, and client communication with mentorship from senior staff
  • Contribute to forward thinking projects using tools like UAVs and AI integrated solutions, with exposure to the firm's Innovation Office and Digital Center of Excellence

  • Relevant rock engineering experience, with interest in field investigation, mapping, rock mass characterization, and geotechnical software
Education and experience:
  • Bachelor's degree in Civil, Geotechnical, Geological, or Mining Engineering, or Engineering Geology
  • 10 to 15 years of experience in geotechnical engineering or related services
  • Registered P.Eng. or P.Geo. with EGBC, or eligible for registration if transferring from another province
  • Valid Canadian driver's licence with access to a vehicle
  • Eligible to live and work in Canada
  • Based in BC or willing to relocate
