Job Title: Junior-Mid-Level Estimator
Company: Civil Contractor Specializing in Off-Site Civil Works

Reports To: Construction Manager
 
Job Summary:
Our client is seeking a dedicated and detail-oriented Junior-Mid-Level Estimator to join their team. The ideal candidate will have a minimum of 2 years of experience in estimating within the civil construction industry, in off-site civil works would be an advantage. The Estimator will be responsible for preparing accurate cost estimates for projects with values up to $3 million, ensuring competitive and profitable bids.
 
Key Responsibilities:
  1. Cost Estimation:
    • Prepare detailed and accurate cost estimates for off-site civil works projects, including labor, materials, equipment, and subcontractor costs.
    • Analyze project drawings, specifications, and other documentation to develop comprehensive estimates.
    • Utilize estimating software and tools to generate cost estimates.
  2. Bid Preparation:
    • Assist in the preparation of bid proposals, ensuring compliance with client requirements and company standards.
    • Conduct quantity take-offs and prepare bills of quantities.
    • Review and interpret tender documents, contracts, and specifications.
  3. Vendor and Subcontractor Coordination:
    • Obtain and review quotes from suppliers and subcontractors.
    • Build and maintain relationships with vendors and subcontractors to ensure competitive pricing and quality service.
    • Evaluate and negotiate subcontractor bids and proposals.
  4. Cost Analysis and Reporting:
    • Conduct cost analysis and identify potential cost-saving opportunities.
    • Prepare and present cost reports and bid summaries to management.
    • Monitor and update cost databases and historical data for future reference.
  5. Collaboration and Communication:
    • Work closely with project managers, engineers, and other team members to ensure accurate and timely estimates.
    • Participate in project handover meetings to provide detailed estimate breakdowns.
    • Communicate effectively with clients, architects, and consultants as needed.
  6. Market Research:
    • Stay updated on industry trends, market conditions, and pricing developments.
    • Conduct market research to identify new opportunities and competitive advantages.
Qualifications:

  • Minimum of 2 years of experience in estimating within the civil construction industry.
  • Strong understanding of construction methods, materials, and processes.
  • Excellent numerical and analytical skills.
  • Strong attention to detail and accuracy.
  • Good organizational and time management skills.
  • Effective communication and interpersonal skills.
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Familiarity with local construction regulations and standards.
  • Experience with project management software (e.g., MS Project).
Physical Requirements:
  • Ability to visit project sites as needed, which may involve exposure to varying weather conditions.
