About the Client: Our client provides design and build valued engineering foundations solutions from their in house team of chartered structural & geotechnical engineers. Their service offering covers, Piling, Groundworks & Civils, Reinforced concrete foundations and structures.
About the Role:  As a Structural Engineer you will lead the structural concepting and support the detailed design functions of the business, working closely with the Proposals Manager and Geotechnical department, reporting directly to companies Pre-Construction Director.

  • Responsible for liaising with the Geotechnical Engineers and Proposal Manager to gather information and requirements for structural design.
  • Design to appropriate design codes, project brief & client specifications
  • Support and advise the companies Structural Technicians.
  • Calculation of true weight of building for use within concepts (pile loads, slab thickness, rebar allowances)
  • Calculating dimensions, material allowance and detailing structural features such as lift pits and steps.
  • Recommend perimeter details in line with external finished site levels
  • Describing production methods step-by-step with the help of other members of the Technical and Pre-Construction team.
  • Create concept design drawings in CAD software, if required
  • Model shape of concrete structure within finite element software if required
  • Prepare and review concepts, developing them along with the Technical and Pre-Construction team.
  • In conjunction with Geotechnical engineer formulate concept/(s) brief for pricing
  • Identification of any potential waterproofing requirements to SDF’s structural works
  • Identify potential engineering problems with drainage and superstructure in relation to our proposed foundation solution.
  • Be prepared to provide sketches of sections to be used for pricing
  • Provide technical advice to pre-construction and construction teams.
  • Report on tender allowances v’s actual designed.
  • Track and report on weekly project progress

About the Requirements:   

  • Excellent knowledge of construction methods and regulations
  • Experience in design and detailing of RC structures to BS and EC
  • Ability to multi-task
  • Excellent inter-personal skills and team player, as well as ability to work alone with minimal supervision.
  • Strong organisational skills and attention to detail
  • Strong IT skills –Bluebeam and Microsoft Office essential. (Excel & Word)
  • Willing to take ownership of a work task, produce the information required to high standard, within the time scales set
  • Confident communicator
  • Ability to learn and self-improve
  • Proficient in the use of AutoCAD, with practical knowledge in the foundation industry
  • Must have an engineering background with a degree in Structural Engineering – BEng, MEng or MSc
  • Member of a relevant Engineering Institution
