About the Client
Our client is an established M&E contractor delivering mechanical, electrical and public health packages across a range of construction projects. Due to continued growth, they are looking for an Assistant MEP Design Engineer to join their design team.

About the Role
Working alongside the Senior Design Manager, you will support the design and delivery of mechanical and electrical building services projects from initial concept through to construction.

You will work closely with the design team, Project Managers, Quantity Surveyors, site teams and external consultants to produce accurate and coordinated MEP design information. The position offers the opportunity to develop your technical knowledge across mechanical and electrical building services.

Key Responsibilities
  • Assist with the preparation and development of MEP building services designs
  • Produce and amend mechanical and electrical drawings using CAD and BIM software
  • Support layouts for HVAC, ventilation, heating, plumbing, drainage, lighting, power and electrical containment
  • Assist with design calculations, equipment selections and technical schedules
  • Review drawings and technical information to identify clashes, discrepancies and design issues
  • Prepare design specifications, schedules and technical documentation
  • Produce and maintain 2D and 3D MEP models and drawings
  • Support BIM coordination and clash detection
  • Update drawings and models following design changes and site information
  • Maintain drawing revisions, naming conventions and file structures
  • Attend design, coordination and project meetings
  • Liaise with project teams, subcontractors, suppliers and consultants
  • Assist with technical queries and requests for information
  • Maintain design records and document registers
  • Undertake occasional site visits, surveys and inspections
  • Support the resolution of design issues during construction
  • Ensure designs comply with relevant legislation, British Standards, Building Regulations and project specifications

Skills and Experience
  • Experience or education within MEP, building services, mechanical engineering, electrical engineering, construction or a related discipline
  • Ability to read and understand technical drawings
  • Basic understanding of mechanical and electrical building services
  • Some experience with CAD or BIM software would be beneficial
  • Good Microsoft Office skills
  • Strong attention to detail and accuracy
  • Good organisational and time-management skills
  • Able to work effectively within a multidisciplinary team
  • Clear written and verbal communication skills
  • Keen to learn and develop technically

Benefits
  • Salary £40,000 - £45,000, dependent on experience
