Job Title: Financial Controller - Barrie
Industry: Heavy Civil Construction & Materials
 
About the Role

• Full-time Financial Controller overseeing all accounting and finance functions for a local civil and materials contractor with 3 different operations
• Works closely with the VP and President in a fast-paced, multi-entity environment.
• Mix of day-to-day accounting, financial leadership, and special projects.

Key Responsibilities

• Lead and support the accounting/finance team.
• Oversee a small team of finance professionals.
• Prepare monthly interim financial statements.
• Develop annual budgets and perform regular variance analysis.
• Monitor cash flow, financial performance, and KPIs; highlight risks and opportunities.
• Implement and maintain strong internal controls.
• Reconcile bank accounts, intercompany accounts, HST, and other government remittances.
• Prepare year-end working papers for external accountants.
• Recommend improvements to financial processes and standard operating procedures.

Qualifications

• CPA designation required.
• 2-3 years of experience in related industries would be an asset (construction preferred)
• Strong computer skills; experience with Jonas and QuickBooks is an asset.
• Knowledge of Accounting Standards for Private Enterprises (ASPE).
