Our client is an established mechanical and electrical contractor with a strong reputation for safe, high-quality project delivery. The business supports commercial, residential, healthcare, education, infrastructure and technically complex building-services schemes, with a clear focus on safe delivery, technical quality and long-term client relationships.
Due to continued growth and a strong project pipeline, they are seeking a Intermediate / Senior Quantity Surveyor to join their team in London. The successful candidate will lead the commercial management of major projects or work packages, protecting contractual entitlement, improving forecast accuracy and driving successful final-account outcomes.
This position will work closely with project leadership, commercial, design, planning and supply-chain stakeholders, providing clear ownership of the role's key deliverables and helping the wider team achieve programme, quality, safety and financial objectives.
Key Responsibilities
• Lead the commercial management of major projects, packages or a portfolio of smaller schemes.
• Develop and maintain robust cost plans, forecasts, cash-flow projections and cost-value reconciliations.
• Lead subcontract procurement, negotiation, contract award and account management through to final settlement.
• Manage variations, claims, notices, extensions of time and contractual correspondence.
• Identify commercial risk and opportunity, implementing practical mitigation and recovery strategies.
• Challenge project performance and provide clear, accurate reporting to senior management.
• Build strong working relationships with clients, consultants and key supply-chain partners.
• Support project teams with contract interpretation, change control and commercial decision-making.
• Mentor junior commercial staff and promote consistent commercial processes and governance.
• Drive timely agreement of client and subcontract final accounts.
Candidate Profile
• Strong track record as a Senior Quantity Surveyor or experienced project QS on complex construction or engineering schemes.
• Confident managing high-value subcontract packages, forecasting, change and final accounts.
• Sound contractual knowledge and the judgement to identify and manage commercial risk.
• Able to lead junior staff and communicate effectively with project and senior management.
Requirements & Experience
• Working knowledge of standard construction contracts, ideally including JCT and/or NEC.
• Strong Excel, reporting and commercial-record management capability.
• Ability to travel to and work from the London location as required.
