Senior Bridge Engineer

We are currently in search of a Senior Engineer to join a team focusing on Bridge and Transportation Structures. Reporting directly to the Practice Lead, this role presents an opportunity to engage in a diverse range of projects, spanning multi-disciplinary design-bid build, design-build, and P3 endeavors.
You will be tasked with designing and overseeing the execution of transportation structure projects, encompassing highways, railways, pedestrian bridges, retaining walls, transit stations, drainage structures, and specialized projects. Regular responsibilities will include conducting inspections, evaluations, analyses, designs, cost estimations, tender preparations, shop drawing reviews, site visits, and construction oversight.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Contribute to preliminary and detailed designs of bridges, culverts, and other civil structures.
  • Conduct bridge inspections, assessments, and rehabilitation designs.
  • Prepare comprehensive reports and proposals.
  • Ensure all tender items are accounted for, including the addition of non-standard items with appropriate specifications.
  • Supervise and ensure quality control of quantity calculations and takeoffs performed by junior staff, and verify cost estimates align with current unit costs.
  • Review designs and drawings for accuracy.
  • Develop contract documents with precise specifications, special provisions, and Non-Standard Special Provisions.
  • Oversee the review of shop drawings and respond to Contractors' RFCs.
Qualifications:
  • A Professional Engineer with a minimum of 10 years' proven experience in structural design and bridge engineering within Canada.
  • Exceptional English communication skills, both oral and written.
  • Registered as a P. Eng. with the Professional Engineers Ontario (PEO).
  • Profound understanding of the Canadian Highway Bridge Design Code (CHBDC) and Ontario Ministry of Transportation (MTO) design codes/standards.
  • Strong technical aptitude, design proficiency, and familiarity with current bridge technologies.
  • Proficiency in structural analysis software such as SAP2000, MIDAS, etc.
  • Expertise in planning, preliminary and detailed design, and construction of bridges of varying complexities, along with culverts.
  • Familiarity with MTO, Metrolinx, and Ontario municipalities' bridge design standards and procedures.
  • Preference for experience with Ontario Provincial Standards (OPSS), Ontario Provincial Standard Drawings (OPSDs), and MTO Construction Projects Standards (CPS).
  • Experience in inspecting, assessing, and rehabilitating existing structures.
  • Ability to manage multiple projects concurrently with diverse design teams.
