Senior Land Surveyor - Underground Utilities & Civil Construction - Toronto
Salary - $90,000 - $120,000Our client is seeking a skilled Civil Land Surveyor with experience in underground utilities and civil construction to support field and project operations. This role is responsible for providing accurate field measurements, layout, and as-built data for utility, excavation, and civil infrastructure projects across SW Ontario.
The ideal candidate will be detail-oriented, safety-focused, and comfortable working in active construction environments.
Key Responsibilities
- Perform field surveys for underground utilities, roadworks, site servicing, excavation, and civil construction projects.
- Establish and verify control points, benchmarks, alignments, grades, and elevations.
- Complete layout for underground utility installation, including water, sewer, storm, hydro, telecom, and related infrastructure.
- Collect, process, and interpret field data to produce accurate as-built records and survey documentation.
- Read and understand construction drawings, grading plans, profiles, and utility plans.
- Work closely with project managers, superintendents, engineers, excavators, and utility crews to support construction progress.
- Identify and communicate conflicts, discrepancies, and site conditions affecting design or construction.
- Experience using survey and civil design software, including Trimble equipment/software, AutoCAD, and Civil 3D, for field layout, data collection, and as-built documentation.
- Maintain accurate field notes, survey records, and daily reports.
- Ensure all survey work is completed safely and in accordance with company and project requirements.
Qualifications
- 7+ years of land surveying experience, preferably in civil construction and underground utilities for a subcontractor
- A Bachelor's degree, or equivalent training in geomatics.
- Strong knowledge of survey principles, construction layout, and as-built surveys.
- Experience working on municipal infrastructure, utility trenching, road construction, or site development projects.
- Ability to read and interpret civil drawings, plans, and specifications.
- Proficiency with surveying equipment and related software.
- Strong attention to detail, communication, and problem-solving skills.
- Ability to work outdoors in varying weather and around active heavy equipment and construction crews.
- Valid driver's license and reliable transportation
Working Conditions
This position requires regular field work on active construction sites, often in challenging weather and site conditions. The successful candidate must be able to work independently, manage priorities, and maintain a strong focus on safety and accuracy.
