Senior Highway Engineer

Our client, a well-established and respected Ontario engineering consulting firm, is seeking a Senior Highway Engineer to join their Transportation team in Ottawa.

This is an excellent opportunity for an experienced transportation professional to play a lead role in the planning, design, and delivery of highway infrastructure projects across Ontario.

The successful candidate will provide technical leadership, manage client relationships, oversee project delivery, and mentor junior team members while contributing to the continued growth of the firm's transportation practice.

Key Responsibilities
  • Lead the preliminary and detailed design of highway projects for the Ontario Ministry of Transportation (MTO).
  • Oversee contract administration and construction support activities throughout project delivery.
  • Manage project schedules, budgets, resources, and client communications.
  • Support business development initiatives, including the preparation of Expressions of Interest (EOIs), proposals, and presentations for new transportation projects.
  • Provide technical leadership and guidance to engineering, design, and technical support staff.
  • Mentor, train, and support the professional development of junior team members.
  • Assist with recruitment, performance development, and team growth initiatives.
  • Coordinate effectively with clients, municipalities, subconsultants, contractors, and construction teams.

Qualifications
  • Professional Engineer (P.Eng.) designation in Ontario.
  • Minimum 12 years of progressive experience in highway and transportation engineering, with significant exposure to MTO projects.
  • Strong professional relationships and industry presence within the Ontario transportation sector, including MTO and municipal stakeholders.
  • Demonstrated experience in planning, preliminary design, detailed design, and construction administration for highway, arterial, and collector road projects.
  • Thorough knowledge of MTO standards, policies, specifications, and procedures.
  • Experience meeting MTO RAQS Key Personnel requirements is considered a strong asset.
  • Strong leadership, communication, and project management skills.
  • Highly organized with the ability to manage multiple priorities and project deadlines.
  • Collaborative team player with a proactive and client-focused approach.
