Transportation Lead Calgary or Edmonton, Alberta | Full-Time, Permanent
A well-established Alberta-based consulting firm is looking to hire an experienced Transportation Lead for their Calgary or Edmonton office. This is a senior, high-impact role for an engineer who wants to provide technical leadership on complex infrastructure projects while helping grow a thriving transportation practice.
The Role As Transportation Lead, you'll act as a trusted advisor to public and private sector clients, providing both strategic direction and hands-on technical expertise across a varied project portfolio. You'll guide the planning, analysis, and design of transportation systems, mentor and develop the team, and play an active part in winning new work and building client relationships.
Key Responsibilities - Lead the planning, analysis, and design of transportation infrastructure, including roadways, complete streets, interchanges, urban and rural intersections, traffic signals, roundabouts, traffic calming, active transportation, transit, parking, and access management
- Take on Project Manager, Technical Lead, or Subject Matter Expert duties as projects require
- Prepare and oversee engineering reports, design drawings, specifications, and cost estimates
- Ensure all designs meet municipal, provincial, and national standards
- Manage budgets, schedules, and deliverables across multiple concurrent projects
- Collaborate across disciplines including civil engineering, land development, and geomatics
- Coordinate subconsultants and contribute to public engagement and stakeholder consultation
- Lead proposal pursuits, including scope, scheduling, and fee development
- Build and maintain strong relationships with municipal and government clients
- Provide mentorship and technical oversight to developing engineers and technical staff
- Contribute to quality control and technical review processes
What You'll Bring - A bachelor's degree in engineering
- P.Eng. designation and good standing with APEGA, or eligibility for registration
- 10 to 15 years of relevant transportation engineering experience, ideally in a consulting setting
- Strong technical background in transportation planning, design, urban design analysis, and operational analysis
- Proficiency with modelling tools such as Synchro, SIDRA, VISUM, HCS, and AutoTURN
- Experience with AutoCAD and Civil 3D (preferred), and roundabout software such as TORUS, ARCADY, or Rodel (an asset)
- Functional knowledge of ArcGIS (an asset)
- Proven project management ability and strong organizational skills
- Excellent written and verbal communication, with the ability to present clearly to technical and non-technical audiences
- A valid driver's license and willingness to travel as needed
