Senior Recruitment Consultant

Geotechnical Lab Supervisor

  • Listed: 23 Oct 2026
  • Civil/Structural Consultancy
  • Ontario - Toronto
This is a full time, hands on lab role for someone who has built their career in geotechnical testing and wants to stay in the lab, running it rather than using it as a stepping stone to something else.

My client is a geotechnical engineering consultancy with a CCIL certified lab split across two sites in the GTA, and you’d move between the two as the work requires. You’d run the lab day to day, keep the testing accurate and on schedule, look after certification and lead a small team of technicians.

Responsibilities
  • Running daily lab operations across both sites, prioritizing testing around project deadlines
  • Performing, supervising and reviewing soil, aggregate and asphalt testing, including:
    • Moisture content, grain size, sieve and hydrometer analysis
    • Atterberg limits, specific gravity, density, unit weight and organic content
    • Standard and Modified Proctor, CBR and Marshall
    • Consolidation, direct shear and unconfined compressive strength
  • Maintaining CCIL certification, including preparing for inspections and proficiency testing and closing out any deficiencies
  • Keeping SOPs, QC records and calibration logs current, and making sure results are traceable and in line with CSA, ASTM, AASHTO and LS/OPSS
  • Investigating unusual results and putting corrective actions in place
  • Supervising, training and reviewing the work of lab technicians, and helping with their development
  • Acting as the link between the lab and the engineers, project managers and field staff, including flagging delays and helping interpret results
  • Managing equipment maintenance, calibration, inventory and purchasing
  • Keeping the lab safe, clean and organized
Qualifications
  • Diploma or degree in civil, geotechnical or construction engineering technology, or a related field
  • 5 years or more in a geotechnical lab, ideally in a supervisor or lead hand role
  • Strong practical knowledge of soil, aggregate and asphalt testing
  • Experience working in a CCIL certified lab, and ideally responsibility for maintaining certification
  • Familiarity with CSA, ASTM, AASHTO and LS/OPSS standards
  • Solid understanding of QC procedures and equipment calibration
  • Experience training and supervising technicians
  • Consulting background and testing experience on residential, commercial, municipal and transportation projects is a bonus
What’s on Offer
  • A long term lab leadership role
  • Health and dental plan
  • RRSP matching
  • Full time, permanent position
Compensation

Up to $90,000 per year, depending on experience.
