About the Client
SSA Recruitment is recruiting on behalf of a well-established construction and infrastructure business with an established presence across the region.

Due to continued growth, they are looking to appoint an experienced Health & Safety Advisor to support their Construction, Asbestos and Surfacing divisions, covering operations across Hull, East Yorkshire and Lincolnshire.

This is an excellent opportunity for a hands-on Health & Safety professional to join an established business and play a key role in maintaining and improving Health & Safety standards across a diverse range of projects and operational environments.

The Role
As a Health & Safety Advisor, you will provide practical Health & Safety support across the Construction, Asbestos and Surfacing divisions.

You will work closely with operational and site management teams, providing advice, carrying out inspections and audits, supporting risk management and ensuring Health & Safety procedures are consistently implemented across projects and sites.

The role will involve regular travel across Hull, East Yorkshire and Lincolnshire, making it ideal for someone who enjoys a varied, site-based position.

Key Responsibilities
  • Provide day-to-day Health & Safety advice and support across the Construction, Asbestos and Surfacing divisions.
  • Carry out regular site inspections, audits and Health & Safety tours.
  • Monitor compliance with company policies, procedures and relevant Health & Safety legislation.
  • Assist with the preparation and review of Risk Assessments and Method Statements.
  • Develop and review safe systems of work.
  • Identify hazards and provide practical recommendations to reduce risk.
  • Investigate accidents, incidents and near misses and assist with implementing corrective actions.
  • Monitor contractor and subcontractor Health & Safety performance.
  • Deliver toolbox talks, inductions and Health & Safety briefings.
  • Support site and operational management with Health & Safety queries and issues.
  • Maintain accurate Health & Safety documentation and records.
  • Assist with internal audits and compliance checks.
  • Support the implementation and continual improvement of Health & Safety procedures.
  • Provide practical advice across construction, surfacing and asbestos-related activities.
  • Promote a positive and proactive Health & Safety culture across the business.
  • Travel regularly between sites across Hull, East Yorkshire and Lincolnshire.
Requirements
  • Previous experience working as a Health & Safety Advisor within the construction industry or a similar operational environment.
  • NEBOSH General Certificate or equivalent is essential.
  • Strong understanding of UK Health & Safety legislation and best practice.
  • Experience carrying out site inspections, audits and risk assessments.
  • Strong knowledge of RAMS and safe systems of work.
  • Experience investigating accidents, incidents and near misses.
  • Excellent communication skills with the ability to engage with site operatives, supervisors and senior management.
  • Practical and proactive approach to Health & Safety.
  • Comfortable working across multiple sites and divisions.
  • Full UK driving licence is essential.
  • Experience within construction, surfacing, highways, asbestos or civil engineering would be highly advantageous.
  • IOSH membership or working towards professional membership would be advantageous.
