Due to continued growth and a strong project pipeline, they are seeking an experienced Commercial Lead to oversee all pre- and post-contract commercial activities on a major UK project. This is a strategic leadership role responsible for protecting the company's commercial and contractual interests, driving project profitability, and supporting successful project delivery through robust commercial management and governance.
The successful candidate will work closely with senior project stakeholders, clients, and supply chain partners, providing commercial leadership throughout the project lifecycle while ensuring financial objectives are achieved.
Key Responsibilities - Lead all commercial activities from pre-construction through to project completion and final account.
- Provide strategic commercial direction to project teams, ensuring commercial objectives are achieved.
- Protect and enhance the company's financial and contractual position throughout the project lifecycle.
- Oversee cost management, forecasting, cash flow reporting, and commercial performance.
- Manage contractual risks and opportunities, implementing effective mitigation strategies where required.
- Support project delivery teams with commercial guidance and decision-making.
- Lead subcontract procurement, contract negotiations, and supply chain management activities.
- Develop and maintain strong relationships with clients, consultants, subcontractors, and key stakeholders.
- Ensure robust commercial governance, reporting, and compliance with contractual obligations.
- Mentor, develop, and support commercial team members to drive performance and career progression.
- Lead commercial reviews and provide accurate reporting to senior leadership teams.
- Support dispute avoidance and resolution through proactive contract administration and stakeholder management.
Candidate Profile - Degree qualified in Quantity Surveying or a related commercial discipline.
- Proven experience in a Senior Quantity Surveyor, Commercial Manager, or Commercial Lead role.
- Strong commercial and contractual knowledge within construction, M&E, engineering, fit-out, or specialist contracting environments.
- Experience managing high-value projects and leading commercial teams.
- Responsible for overseeing all commercial and contractual aspects of project delivery, including procurement, risk management, forecasting, and financial reporting.
- Ensure robust cost control, contractual compliance, and protection of the company's commercial interests.
- Manage change control, claims, contractual notices, and dispute resolution where required.
- Provide commercial leadership, mentoring, and support to project teams, promoting best practice and continuous improvement.
- Build and maintain strong relationships with clients, consultants, subcontractors, and supply chain partners.
- Excellent negotiation, stakeholder management, financial management, and problem-solving skills.
- Experience within data centres, advanced manufacturing, life sciences, cleanrooms, mission-critical, or other technically complex construction sectors would be advantageous
Requirements & Experience - Strong understanding of subcontract procurement, material purchasing, and supply chain management.
- Excellent knowledge of contract administration, claims management, dispute resolution, and NEC contracts.
- Proven experience producing commercial reports, financial forecasts, and cash flow analysis.
- Ability to develop and implement commercial strategies that maximise project profitability and commercial performance.
- Experience managing multiple projects and priorities within a fast-paced construction environment.
- Good understanding of industry standards, quality requirements, health & safety, and commercial compliance procedures.
- Significant experience within a senior commercial role in the construction, engineering, M&E, or specialist contracting sectors.
- Degree qualified in Quantity Surveying, Commercial Management, or a related discipline (preferred).
- Strong leadership, negotiation, communication, and client relationship management skills.
- Experience leading, mentoring, and developing commercial teams.
- Ability to conduct performance reviews, identify training needs, and support the professional development of team members.
- Fluent in English and willing to travel as required.
